anyone ever have their toenail fall out?

recently, i have been playing a lot of basketball and a lot of ppl have been stepping on my big toe. half of it turned like... purple-ish under the nail. today i was playing again and afterwards my toe really felt uncomfortable... kind like it got stomped on... which it probably did. i touched it and it was kinda sensitive... like a pins & needles feeling. i think the nail is gonna fall off. i'm just wondering... how long is it gonna take? maybe i should take pics day by day and track progress... and after all is done, i can post a phot album for all to enjoy. 🙂
 
I sliced my toe open and cracked the nail through the middle, down to the cuticle.
One side turned black and the existing nail is dead on that side.
I guess it takes upwards of a year to get the nail back.

no dude... i am pretty sure it's coming off.

so i guess it will fall out in two weeks and take about a year to grow back? man i am gonna have a gimp toe for a year... i will be so ashamed to wear sandals all summer 🙁
 
there is gonna be a new nail growing right under it.. and as it grows out more.. the damaged nail is gonna fall off..

happened to me when I played basketball and the bastages kept on stepping on my foot.


it doesn't take long for the new toe nail to grow out... it'll stay on there until it grows from under it.. that is unless you intentionally pull it off.. which i don't suggest
 
hmm... so do u think i should lay off basketball for a while? i like to play but man... friggin' ppl keep tap dancing on my gimp toe :|
 
i know someone who had that happen. she was kicking punching bags for some martial arts class and eventually her big toe nail just fell off. when it was gone she said it didn't hurt.
 
dont pull it though if it is gonna fall off...just let it happen. Hurts like a b!tch...i know from experience.

naw keep on playing

it'll continue to get stepped on.. but you'll eventually get used to the pain.
 
get some steel toe sneaks and play in them.

Iron Age has them in NY.

Yea, they're clunky and heavy...but at least you could play b-ball while your toe healed up....

it won't take a year.. more like 3 months.

I lost my big toe nail once. No big deal.
 
I already sporting a purple big toenail on my left foot....i also play ALOT of basketball and it seems like every summer i lose the nail at least once. you can keep playing if it doesn't hurt, and as it gets closer to falling out you may want to tape it down so it doesn't snag when you put on socks and pants and stuff.

 
I've had my thumb nail fall off before, it slowly starts lifting off as a new nail begins to grow under it. It doesn't hurt when it comes off unless you force it off.
 
Well I been there.. I play bball alot in HS but I lost my big toe nail from
being stomped on too.

The main problem is that it tends to grow back thicker. Its pretty painless but
the nail today is nasty. Harder to cut, have to put anti-fungi stuff on it, etc. I
never had them problems before.

After it grows out 1/8 the way.. I would suggest pulling the old nail off. It should hurt at
all and should be completely dead.
 
Yes.. i crushed a toe.. it turned purple for a few days, and then the whole nail just kinda cracked off. I had like 4 different nails that were growing independantly.
 
Yep, got my bare foot slammed in a door. Nail fell off, but grew back pretty quickly. Just look at about how fast your other nails grow, and kind of figure it out that way. Think it was a couple months for me, but it looks kind of freaky cool while it's growing.
