Anyone ever have a UPS package disappear then randomly show up a month later?

Supposedly my package with the tracking number 1Z34YE850397279349 was delivered to my front door on 3/15/07. However I never saw it and UPS did not have permission to leave it without a signature so they were liable. I created a dispute with Paypal but since it didn't look like paypal was doing anything I also filed a dispute with my credit card company.

Then out of the blue my package shows up today 4/16/07 just sitting on top of my apartment complex's mailbox. I don't know where the fvck it's been but it appears to be untampered with. Seriously WTF?

No, I opened it. Everything is intact. Doesn't look anything was tampered with. It just disappeared into a time warp.

What if they delivered it to the wrong place? As far as I know, anyone can sign for a package, because it's not like they check the signature against the name in the "to" address. Perhaps that person just kept it around for an unusually long time until they decided to get around to delivering it to you...

ups asks the spelling of the llast name for the person signing, so if they have that on record (its all recorded in their handset) you can find out who signed for it, mebbe a neighbor. ive had them leave stuff with a neighbor if my neighbor agrees to sign for it.

I thought it was delivered to the wrong place too, however I went down to ups and talked to a manager and he called the driver for me. The driver said that he placed it in front of my door.

clarification: i wasnt saying they delivered it to the wrong address, they will knock on a neighbors door and ask if they know you, and if they would sign for your package. they have done that to me many times, thats why i have things delivered to my work now. i dont really know my neighbors, and if i buy something for my puter systems i dont want to risk them dragging it to ebay and selling it for me.

So the driver admitted that he broke the rules by delivering without a signature. I can't believe people get away with this, then still keep their jobs.

The EXACT same thing happened to me not too long ago. I ordered something and the UPS tracking system said it was delivered... but no package. It randomly showed up about a month later.

According to the manager, the driver can leave the package if they think that it is safe to do so. He told me that the "higher ups" were putting these new measures into place in order to save money. It is also why UPS has been delivering to neighbors now. Every time they have to make another delivery attempt it costs them money.

Maybe it's their new delivery policy.

Would not be surprising.

Either driver screwed up and covered his own butt, or neighbor had it for a month waiting to run into you outside.
