So I posted this issue I had with posting... and it turns out the CPU was bad.
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2184927

It's been about 2yrs since I got the CPU. I called up microcenter where I got the CPU from, they told me I had to deal with intel. I went on intel's site and it says to contact the distributor or it tells me to click this page to get service, but that page ends up bringing me around in circles. So anyone know how to get warranty service from intel?

Yes I do. The easy answer is to call technical support at 916-377-7000. They are generally very friendly on setting up an RMA for you. About the only thing that you may have to dig up is the receipt from your original purchase if there is a question on if the board is still under warranty.

YA a customer tried to pull a fast one on me . I sent a P4 back to them to find out what went wrong as it was I already knew . It wasn't intel fault but customer it was a storm that caused the problem . I replaced the Cpu out of pocket . But when I installed new cpu . I waited to power up. Until customer was present . I told him . Going to show you some magic. I fired it up and as I was hoping the cpu open wimdows to were the cpu was lost . It opened in the middle of the program that was running whem lightening struck . Itold customer he lied to me and proved it .
I payed for the cpu but told him I no longer wanted him as a customer.

Sweeet an actual Intel rep here. I gave em a call and the RMA process was quick and painless. I was sweatin bullets about needing the receipt, but luckily the numbers on the cpu/stock cooler cleared in their system. Thanks!

if its a valid RMA, intel is painless.

But make sure its a Retail CPU b4 u go off RMAing to intel.

If it was a OEM cpu's you bought, without heat sink, chances are, its not under intel's original warrenty.

Retails come in a Retail BOX with heat sink.

If I remember correctly - Intel should be able to ID your CPU (retail or bulk) by code on the CPU or something.

Additionally I remember AMD requiring retail H/S fan to be sent back (along with faulty CPU) for Retail RMA - not sure if Intel is same.

Reason I mention AMD is because they usually try and mimic Intel in areas like this for competitive factors.

In other words, more retail packaging/HSF you have better chances of trouble free service.

He's already gotten approval, he's gtg.

@OP: It is unbelievably rare for an intel cpu to fail without serious (>15%) overvolting. Did you do any overclocking? Did you test the board as well?

I can't recall ever having a CPU fail. Worst was probably when I screwed up modding a slotket for a Tualatin, and shorted VCC to Gnd. VRMs on my nice BX6-r2 fried. CPU, amazingly, survived. (Although it got pretty warm in short order.)
