Anyone Ever Had to Explain Internet Memes to their Wife/Spouse?

Felt the need to ask this question to ATOT after I had an awfully fun time explaining to my wife what teabagging was since it came up in some news Youtube we were watching.

Needless to say she just looked at me fucking weird the whole time because I was basically explaining the entire history behind it and how it originated.... and how I used to it back in the Counterstrike days.

The wife had her days of maybe watching anime, but she is definitely outside the realm of internet culture and 4chan memes. So ATOTers, any of you had one of these fun awkward conversations with your spouse?

I sent this to my now-wife, then-girlfriend back in like, 2004, before Youtube existed, and before memes & weird videos were a "thing", outside of the geek community:

Edit: Oh man, I found the original email. Such cringe. How did I ever get married, hahaha. I'll post some snippets of the response before I nuke those emails from existence:
um.... i don't exactly know how to respond to that... i do enjoy cereal and milk... but i don't know how much i liked that..
i almost don't want to know where you found that...
it was really random... i mean it was 2 strange guys singing a song about cereal and milk and one of them was not wearing a shirt... i was just dumbfounded thats all

This from the woman who now sends ME memes from imgur, lol.

I recall tea-bagging existing before "the internet" as we know it and the advent of popular multiplayer shooters. I recall using the term in the mid-nineties, and it being used in a couple of flicks from around that time and earlier?

Have you ever had to explain goatse to your wife?

I was one of the people who thought it was pronounced me-me...who the fuck spells a word meme instead of meam.

It predates the internet and appears to have been coined by Dawkins. Well, he claims he invented it in the Selfish Gene and is generally attributed as the creator of the term.

R. Dawkins Selfish Gene xi. 206 The new soup is the soup of human culture. We need a name for the new replicator, a noun which conveys the idea of a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation. ‘Mimeme’ comes from a suitable Greek root, but I want a monosyllable that sounds a bit like ‘gene’. I hope my classicist friends will forgive me if I abbreviate mimeme to meme... It should be pronounced to rhyme with ‘cream’. Examples of memes are tunes, ideas, catch-phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches.

But the concept predates Dawkins by nearly a century, and he derived the term from a greek word with similar meaning.

Yes, I had to explain this to my wife, she is way smarter than me which made it even stranger

Past Christmas, my Mom thought it would be fun to play cards against humanity since she knew my Nieces liked it. She had no idea what the game was other than cards.
*My Wife had to explain Bukkake to my Mom.

Tone honest...half the shit I read on the internet I have no idea what they mean. I skimmed this thread and most of the terms used I have no idea about.

Thank you for being right! I hate when people mispronounce gif with a hard g.

I never met a single person who pronounced it with a hard G until it became a thing on the Internet, and then all of the non-techies (the grammar nazis) got involved & tried to be all politically correct about it :D

Both my computer teachers & my digital art teachers in college all called it "jif" as well, so it sounded weird when all the n00bs would show up and say "ghif". It's jif, like in a jiffy! I'm not caving to the rest of the world, it's OUR word, baby! ;)
