Anyone ever had their appendix removed?

Basically, woke up at 5am this morning with a lot of pain in my stomach, took pepto and some antacids. I was thinking it may have been some old cottage cheese I had last night but that would have taken 6 hours for the poisoning to take affect. So rested for a couple more hours, and the pain subsided. Now, I can still feel pain in my ride side, however. I'm wondering if this could be the early onset of appendicitis? Any opinions appreciated, set up an appointment with my doctor as well.

UPDATE:
Doc sent me to ER, had surgery yesterday for appendix removal. On a liquid diet and healing right now and finally home from the hospital, but a bad way to spend Thanksgiving... 🙁

It is probably gas. You will know it is the begining of appendicitis when you are keeled over in the worst pain of your life.

Once the pain starts, it doesn't go away.

So if you've had some relief, that's a good sign.

I woke up with pain in the morning, and by noon i was at the ER.

A few hours later i was operated on!

If your abdominal pain persists, get to the doctor today!

No but I used to get similar pains except they were pretty severe and would come and go, usually after eating dairy or things like pizza. Long story short the docs never found out what it was, It was only until I researched and sort of demanded having an ultrasound that they discovered my gall bladder was jam packed full of tiny stones. You might want to ask for an ultrasound of the area. I'm male and 24 years old 180lbs 6' so it was a big surprise to them when they discovered what the cause was. I feel 100x better since having it removed.

Ok update... this is exactly what happened. Doc sent me to ER, had surgery yesterday for appendix removal. On a liquid diet and healing right now and finally home from the hospital, but a bad way to spend Thanksgiving... 🙁

Gee, I remember when they kept you in the hospital for a week after an appendectomy. How times have changed.

I had my appendix removed...and I gotta say that the WORST part was the fvcking Barium shakes I had to drink prior to my MRI...that sh!t was NASTY!!!

But hey! a week off school aint bad at all!

Yeah, but mine was removed in a Mexico City motel room after I let a prostitute buy me a cocktail.

I woke up naked in the bathtub, with sutures on my side and a note telling me not to call the Policia.

You are doing better than I was.

If they billed you for that MRI then you where ripped off. An MRI for an appendix is bad medicine. Unless you appendix is in a realy weird place it isnt that hard to work out if you have it or not. An MRI is just technology making up for a bad doctor.

Yeah, that's for sure! They were going to give me a KATScan, but after finding out that my white blood cell count was roughly 35-50% higher than normal, it was pretty easy to discern what the problem was. That combined with acute lower right abdominal pain that wasn't getting any better. An MRI for appendicitus does seem rather over the top! 🙂

Had mine out about 18 months ago. The worst part of the recovery was coughing during the first 3-4 days. Other than that, it wasn't too bad.

BTW, I went home at 6:30 pm the day of surgery. That hospital food was going to kill me, so I talked them into it.
