Viral or bacterial?
If bacterial, Ceftriaxone+Vanco STAT.
If viral, not much you can do.

+ampicillin if he's older than 50.
He would have been on acyclovir from the start once meningitis was suspected

Not sure if they would have given dex+rif as well

Thanks for the support.

My dad is doing a lot better. He's still on antibiotics. They are saying that he might go home tomorrow but will have to be on a iv for 3 more weeks for antibiotics.

That's very good news! I'm glad to hear that he's recovering and he's responding well to the treatment.

I couldn't believe how bad the headache was from my spinal tap. I was so completely messed up from everything else, but that headache destroyed me.

I was so messed up, that the spinal tap actually made me feel better and let me sleep for the first time in days.

It was crazy how quickly the headache would ease up as soon as I lay down. The trip from the hospital to the car was almost the worst part of the adventure. Bizarre stuff.

Sounds pretentious. And I smile when I see Spinal Tap. 😀

Yes. Early on, there was nothing that could be done to make me feel better. However, later, when I was laying down, I felt perfectly fine. The moment I lifted my head from the pillow, I wanted to die.

Truly bizarre.

My dad ended up coming home for 3 days with a IV of antibiotics and such. On the 3rd day i noticed he was out of it and the left side of his body wasn't working at all. We took him back to the to the hospital via ambulance. Ended up having to remove his right side of his skull to get a better look, relieve the pressure, clean up the infection and drain it. This was on Sunday morning at around 2am. Day after surgery his right eye got swollen shut. It was crazy to see my dad like that and all stapled up. Just saw him earlier today. He is improving everyday. His left side started to work after 2-3 days after surgery ( i don't remember been seeing him everyday though) He is currently doing Physical therapy while under the iv for about 3-6 weeks ( im not sure). Seems like hes really bored being in the hospital though. Not sure what i can do other then show support and hang out with him everyday. Sorry if it looks like shit, its late , ive been stressed out and tired.

Wow getting to the point where they had to remove a portion of his skull!! That must have been scary. I've heard of similar things happening to others with meningitis, it's serious stuff! Glad to hear he is doing better.

Yeah I'm always stress out now because I'm constantly worried about my dad. That and the fact that he's already tired of being at the hospital. He's been there for almost 3 weeks. He doesn't even remember coming home for those 3 days
