Anyone ever had an internship at a Big 4?

I heard that interns are in the second best position right below partners @ Big 4's because they treat you so well and you'll have so much fun/partying at internship conferences. Anyone care to share their experiences or stories? How hard is it to get in?

Interns are treated pretty well. At my firm, they don't suck you into lousy things like proposal writing, which everyone hates. Also, while interns do get staffed to projects, you're basically free to come and go if you've managed to network a bit and have set up some lunches or whatever with other employees. Conferences and such are good, but not as good as the training once you're on board as an analyst, jr auditor, or whatever the fresh grad rung is at the firm you've joined. That's pretty much anywhere from 2 weeks to a month of expense acct living in a resort area.

If you want to get recruited out of school, it's really not hard to get a job as an accounting major. Of course, the higher the grades, the faster you'll get that internship.

I have a couple of friends that does technology consulting with the Big 4 after they graduated.

Lots of travels, money is decent for fresh grad, but not top-of-the-line. Work hard, party hard, those don't work hard enough (i.e. doesn't get promoted after 2 years) will usually quit.

Interns are treated well b/c the partners spent a lot of time and money and want to get the resources into the firm. At staff level is where the meat grinder begins.

Spent 5yrs at a Big 4,

Interns are treated better than anyone in the office. Its more a social internship than a working one as people are judging you more by your social interaction than by your intelligence in accounting.

They figure you passed the interview screening process which means you are bright but you must be able to get along with your peers and not be a social dumbass. You should be able to carry a conversation, not commit sexual harassment, and show up to work on time.

They take you to go-karts, theme parks, picnices, nice lunches, out to drinks, and various other social outings all throughout the 8-weeks you are there.

Yeah, and don't get piss drunk, either. They're looking out for people who can't drink socially. Basically, if you're sloshed, running up a huge tab, and spilling drinks, clean up your resume because you gotta keep looking. Actually, nobody cares about the size of the tab unless it's associated with someone getting sloppy.
