You'll be given a potable anesthetic. I doubt anything more than that since you need to be able to swallow on command. ;)

I had this procedure done when I was younger (around 12 - 13). They did not want me to be fully unconscious, but they gave me a lot of drugs. Come to think of it, it was pretty much like being really drunk and riding home in someone else's car. You know something is going on, but you don't really care.

Not a big deal at all. Had to have one before I had surgery. You'll be asked to lay on your side. An IV will be inserted and then the anesthetic. You won't remember a thing and the aftermath is painless.

okay, doesnt sound too bad at all

i've had a tube put through my nose and down into my stomach w/o being drugged... hopefully this procedure will be just as easy as that one

I had it a few times because of recurring ulcers. You are given a sedative and become somewhat numb.

Just hope the endoscopy clinic has properly disinfected the endoscope and also properly rinsed it. Nothing like getting a chemical burn up there because some tech following a manual disinfection procedure did not rinse the scope completely.

They are also supposed to use new enzymes/soap for every scope when manually cleaning them. I have seen more clinics that do not. They will have one sink/tub set up and run all the scopes per day using the same cleaning solution.

I've had two Endoscopies a Colonoscopy and a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy. I was knocked out for everything except the Sigmoid (that was some pain!). I woke up during one of the endoscopies and then went right back out.
