My epic turned off today when I was using it with tje car charger and gave me a temp warning. My phone always gets physically hot when charging but this was the first time it shit down on me.

Are you using a branded car charger? I've had phones and devices heat up using generic chargers several times.

I use my phone outside, between the internal heat, and the sun, it heats up pretty good, never shut down though...

back in the good old days of analog, any call that lasted more than 5 minutes would turn your phone into a fireball. I had an old Samsung phone that had something go weird on it and it caught on fire. Those were the fun days!

That being said...my Vibrant will get hot on the charger sometimes. I've had it when something went weird and my phone got super hot and started clicking on stuff by itself.

Reboot and you should be good.

MY generic car charger gets my Droid very hot, but never to the point when it displayed an overheat message or shut down. I've left the phone in the car in the late afternoon in Phoenix summers multiple times for about an hour or so while I went running. Was still on when I got back, no disruption in the uptime. It was definitely extremely hot to the touch though, probably wasn't good for it.

My Droid Incredible must have some internal hardware failing because it overheats like crazy. I am taking it in for warranty today though. It will overheat, restart, restart, restart, etc. Only way to get the bootloop to end is to take the battery out and let it cool off or plop the phone over an AC vent.

I posted several threads about it on AndroidForums.

I've never seen a temp warning, but pretty sure I got my droid to reboot due to heat. Seen it once at an indicated 57c whilst in a car dock + charger + running maps/pandora. Still worked, although it was sluggish. Seems to get more unstable in the 50c range. Hard to hold on to as well given the metal case. With charging I don't usually see it much above 40c, and by then it feels a lot warmer than it actually is.
