Anyone ever find a job by posting a resume on a site like monster, etc..?

Just curious if it's worth the effort to post a resume at an online job seeking site. Do companies ever contact you for interviews or will open you up to telemarketers and other undesirable elements?

There are lots of real jobs on job websites. Just don't be retarded when applying for jobs and you won't get roped into any scams.

No, I or anyone I know never did. Go to indeed.com and you will find jobs that are not listed on these sites, listed locally on companies and headhunter's websites.

I usually just wrap it around a brick and throw it through the window of the VP or CEO or whatever.

I got several short term contract jobs from my posting on monster. They worked out well.

I never did get a full time job. My old company got their finances back in order and i got hired back after only being laid off for a year and a half.

To this day, even though i keep checking to make sure my resume isn't listed as showing, i still get calls for short term contracts. :( it is good an all, but i hate wasting their and my time. I don't really want to just delete it in case i need it again.

I left my resume on monster.com for a while. I had applied for several jobs and got nothing. Out of the blue I got a call for a temp job that dealt with my degree a little bit and I went to the interview. I took the job, resigning from my previous employer. I worked the temp job for seven months and got hired on permanently and have been permanent for five years. I love my job, it is great and I hope this place is here for 30+ more years so I can retire from here.

I don't think I'd hire you anyway if it's too much effort to fill out your info on monster.com.

Unless you have some highly desirable or specific skill that few people have, it's unlikely a recruiter is going to call you because of your resume being posted. You will have to actively look for work.

His resume says he can fit 3 dicks in his ass at the same time. I think we should give him a call.

I got a call from a temp agency for a big corporation, then got hired within a couple of months from that company.

Nope.

First job I got through a year in industry company, 2nd I found in a newspaper listing, 3rd I used a recruiter. My mate had used a few a recruiter to get his and he passed me their details. I get access to jobs that aren't listed.

Yes. It's how I found my last three employers.

Correction... I found my last three employers through job sites. Not the other way around.

I have received a couple of full time employment slots via a job board plus multiple contract jobs over the past 30 years.

Much depends on your skills.

Putting your papers out there WILL get you plenty of worthless inquiries and some spam

Depending on your position, headhunters look at jobsites like that to find people for the company that hired them. My buddy was hired this way as a metallurgical engineer.

It boils down to this: it can potentially help you, and really doesn't have much of a chance to harm you. You might as well.

I've had a few staffing type of agencies offer me work, from Dice & Monster. But I had to turn them down.
Outside of a commutable zone, contract work without guaranteed steady hours. Told em to call me back if they have steady full-time work for me.
I spammed out my resume on CL, then when I was psyched to see responses from a few places in Vegas, that quickly dissipated when I realized they were just scam/phishers.

Posting resumes online is one of the least effective ways to get a job. Of course there are people who do find their job that way, but don't be surprised if you "apply" for a few hundred and hear nothing back (and most importantly, don't let that get you down)

From my very own 10 plus years of work experience, the best ways to get a job are:

#1) Company website and contact

#2 ) Networking, ie. someone knows someone at the company

/end

Monster, Yahoo, Jobsfinder, et al are a waste of time IMO. I never have any luck with them and don't know anyone that does.

I did it once. First call I got was for a fraudulent job offer. Took my info offline right after that and cancelled my account.

99.9% of employers will never make contact with you first, online resume or no. That's just how it works.

I got my current job by posting a resume on Monster. I had just moved to the area and updated my resume on Monster with my new contact info. I wasn't actively looking yet or applying though, but one day I got a call from a recruiter. Went to an interview the next day, got the job as a contractor, went FTE a year later and I'm still here 3 years later (although I've moved into a different position at the company).

I did kind of, but it was actually a job consultant (temp agency) posting disguised as an actual job.

It worked out though, I got a high paying temp to hire job, and within 6 months I was permanent.

My wife found a couple legit places to interview with, but most were the places that wanted you to "buy in" for a few hundred bucks for training with them.
