Anyone ever file a report on a hit and run car accident?

well to make a long story short, I watched this woman back right into my car while backing out of her parking spot. I was about 20 feet away when it happened coming out of the store. She started pulling away when I stepped in front of her car to stop her and told her she hit my car. she denied it saying she didn't feel it hit anything. i was shocked since she obviously hit it pretty good.

anyway, i asked her to pull over so we could talk but instead she just drove away. I got her license plate number and contacted the police. i was told i have to go to the station to file a report. i have some nice scuff marks on my back bumper but that's it. dont know if she jarred anything loose underneath.

it's late tonight so i'm going to go to the station tomorrow.

I was just curious if anyone has gone through this and what to expect? thanks!

I accidentally taped a car in the lot the other day... Got out, checked both out... I just did some work so my gellcoat at the point of impact was still setting... Everything on her 80s' beater rubbed off... My car has all of the damage... (just to the setting jellcoat). I didnt say anything, just felt like an ass and took off. Still muttering about it...

sh!t happens... thats why she has some fresh goup on her car and I have another 5 hours of gel work ahead of me :(

Since you have her license plate & visible damage that's all you'll need. An officer will probably just ask you for information and fill out the paperwork himself. If not they'll at least guide you through it.

I do know though from a friend's experience that you do have to call the police from the site where it happened, with your car parked where it happened if you want it to all go through in a way such that your insurance can go after hers... taht might be state rules tho.. GL either way

well your attitude sucks...sh!t happens but there's this thing called being responsible. I don't have an '80's beater' and regardless of the damage, I saw her hit my car hard and drive away after I approached her. If I even tapped a car, I'd at least leave my phone number on the car.

Happned to me last week. Filed a complaint, told the cops I knew who it was (tire tracks leading from their driveway right into my car), and they said ok. An old woman backed out of her drive way, somehow managed to hit my car knocking the bumper in and the fog light out.

They went to the people's house and confronted them about it. They person who drove was not home at the time but since they knew I knew who did it they came to me with insurance information and it was all taken care of.

If you have paint or anything else like that on your car take pictures and call your insurance company. Mine told me that if the person didnt come forward they would do their own investigation. Cops told me the same thing. But luckly I didn't have to get involved in any of that.

pft... don't worry about it, you'll get your car fixed on her... Her not stopping tho was total BS. I'm glad you're sticking it to her.
