I have an 1.4 GHZ AMD.. tons of memory, and others.. whenever I am using Hotmail and IE 5.0 or 5.5... sometimes when I hit reply IE will just quit on me... like disappear.. when I restart IE 5 it is fine.. and it happens sporadically.. My AMD is overclocked from 1.4 to 1.433 only... have not done anything much yet to test it. Any ideas what is going on ?? Is there some JScript I have to update or my IBM 40GXP getting bad, Video card...etc.. btw everything is brand new except the case.. antec 830 with 300Watt PS. Good HSF as well. ......... also the Computer Reboots sometime when I am Typing a letter on Word !!!!!!!!!!@###$#%$# HElP please ??

i have something similar, i will be looking at a website, going into windows folders or something and BAM! reboot. this started happening since i swapped xp1800's with a friend because mine had a better core which i wasnt going to oc as high as he was, but also i oc'd my ti200 at the same time, so i dont know what the problem is. but i set the video back to default settings and i still have the problem so i guess i can count that out. im taking my cpu back to see if it goes away. any ideas?

Well while we wait for someone hopefully to reply to us... I hear that it is sometimes with IRQ issues. I have seen IRQ_Not_Equal or something before when it restart ...... How are your devices arranged on the PCI Bus ?

This really sounds like possible power supply/heat issues. I would try clocking those cpu's down---they're already screaming-do you realling need an extra 33 mhz? AMDs are excellent chips but they love power and enjoy breaking a sweat. What brand of power supply are you using and what are your voltage readings?

my cpu isnt overclocked and all voltage settings are at default, i would suspect the ps but its a 4 month old 350W Enermax. my temps are ok, 31/34 system and 42/46 cpu (idle/load). my voltage readings, which im not realy familiar with are as follows (i assume this is wut ur asking for): 2.5V = 2.74 3.5V= 3.56 5V=5.13 12V= 12.60, the cpu is at its default, 1.75 i think, i tried raising it one notch, but it didnt fix the problem so i went back.

Your temps look okay. Your ps is probably ok as well.

Please post some more details about your system: Motherboard, bios version, type of memory used, sound card, video card, which slot is occupied by what, Operating system, etc.

Sounds like it could be a bios issue to me.

The enermax PS depending on model no. can sometimes cause problems - is it the one with the overly long atx cable ?

asking for): 2.5V = 2.74

The voltage to memory seems a tad high for default setting. Is there a provision in BIOS to adjust this? Maybe `underclock` it....... Does PSU have adjustable pots in it? The +5v reading is good, kinda unusually good, most times with AMD cpu's the +5v is low, like 4.8-4.9v, which is a known problem that can cause problems such as you are experiencing........
Have you tried , if possible, in BIOS to set memory speed to 100mhz instead of FSB speed?

here are more details about my computer: athlon xp 1800+, abit kg7 raid, 2x 256 pc2100 crucial, maxtor diamodn plus 60, pny gf3 ti200, hercules muse xl (sound), pioneer 116 dvd rom, sigma designs realmagic hollywood plus (dvd decoder), realtek 8139 10/10 NIC, thermaltake volcano 6Cu+ HSF, two 80mm case fans, 350W enermax EG365P-VE. yes i think this is the one you were referring to as "very long atx cable". im running win xp pro.

and on the voltage thing. in my bios i have an option called ddr vcc voltage and it is at default 2.65, is this what you want me to turn down? also, how do i make ram run at 100mhz instead fsb in my bios my options are multiplier factor, cpu fsb, and fsb rate (3:3:1: or 4:4:1:). id be surprised if it was the memory though, crucial is good quality and its never been oc'ed. anyways thanx, keep the sugestions coming.

Try the following:
1) Download and run the drive fitness test on the ibm website: http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
2) download memtest or similar program to check your memory. You may have to let it run overnight for about 12 hours
3) Try running your system with only the essential components (1 HD, videocard, 1 stick of memory, mouse, kb) and see if it still crashes, if not, keep adding components until you can isolate if its a hardware conflict problem
4) Do a windows update to see if there are any new drivers for XP that you need
5) What are your IRQ settings???

Good luck.

Have a search for the power supply - iirc overclockers.com reported a problem with it.

A lot of my devices are somehow on IRQ 11.. I had PNP OS in the BIOS to Yes and ACPI to On. I am using the 8KHAL which is similar to the 8KHA+... How can I change this ? do I need to reformat and redo everything again ??

dvdman:

Win2K and WinXP are NOT considered PNP OS'es. So when setting BIOS options, you should set PNP OS to "NO".
If you are not having any problems with your cards, then I wouldn't worry about it, but if you are, try changing this setting and see if it helps.
