Anyone ever do an interview with google?

I've got a phone interview with them next week for a Data Center Technician job (working with Linux) and was wondering what sort of questions I should expect. The HR lady said it was going to be a "technical interview". I'm probably way over qualified for the postion since I remember they had Associate's degree as one of the job requirements and I just finished getting my Masters in Computer Engineering and it's not really what I'd want to do in the long run, but it's a foot in the door at least. The position is a temporary with potential to be permenant-full time later.

While we're at it, if anyone's company is hiring in the RTP, NC area, please drop me a pm. I've got a BS and MS in Computer Engineering, co-op experience in technical support, software development, and testing. I've also got two years of experience doing technical support for a university--software, some networking, email support, phone support, I work directly with people all the time, laptops, and pc's. Right now, I'm also studying to get a CCNA while searching for a job.

I have a phone interview with them for Gmail coordinator (pretty much tech support) on friday. I won't be getting any techincal questions hopefully since this isn't really a techincal job... good luck though.

Google isn't going to be much different from any other company by hiring practice. They'll ask you questions about your education, skills, experience, the obligatory "what woudl you add to our company" question, and you'll just have to make yourself look like SuperTechie. Besides, it looks like you're a sure shot for it, unless you're a sociopath or something like.

That's the thing, I've screwed up job interviews in the past because I had said something that was totally off the wall or makes me look psycho unless you knew me better. Hopefully, that won't happen this time.

On the plus side, since it's over the phone, I won't have to try to fake enthusiasm--I tend to get a bit poker faced when nervous which I think a lot of people interpret as disinterest in the job I'm interviewing for.

I'm not too fond of phone interviews. I especially dislike the obligatory question of "What are your flaws/problem areas?" I typical just spew the bs of being a perfectionist or what have you. Oh well. GL

Make sure you have a good phone whose battery won't run out, I reccomend a headset of some kind through a wire so you don't have any problems on your end
