Anyone ever do a quote on a website before?

This is my first time doing one, typically I just charge by the hour, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever done a detailed quote before and how they went about doing it. One definate thing I will not do is commit to set price because things always end up taking longer than anticipated because of "minor" adjustments by clients.

Some things I want to avoid is scare someone off with a huge quote (did this once already). I wanted to do something that would be sufficient for my client to get an idea of costs, but not commit to a set price. I'm thinking of quoting a bare bones site and stating that anything extra would cost more.

Let me know what you guys think,
Psyber
