Anyone ever dealt with bats in their home?

i am not 100% sure we have them or anything yet, but after last night i think we MIGHT have some in our walls or attic or something.

last night around 3am or so my wife and i both woke up and had heard what we thought was a squeaking noise. we were 1/2 asleep and it sounded like it was in the house somewhere down the hallway or downstairs, but it also kind of sounded like it could have been outside. but the more i think about it now, the more it did not sound like it was outside.

not knowing what it was i got up out of bed to investigate, and was talking quietly. pretty much as soon as i started walking the sound was gone though. i checked the whole house just to be sure no one was in the house and all doors were locked and it was fine.

then looking back, about a month or so ago, in one of my upstairs rooms, around like 8pm or so i heard something that sounded like scratching on the walls. i thought maybe it was something on the roof of the house, but it did also sound like it was in the walls too. but it was only that one time i had heard anything.

after doing some googling today i see that sometimes people get bats in their walls/attics. it's odd the other day, like a week ago maybe, i was grilling and outside around 8pm and noticed what i thought was 2 bats flying in the neighborhood. i didn't think anything of it but i also don't really pay attention and notice things like that, but now looking back i did notice that.

i thought maybe it was like a mouse squeaking or something, but we've been living here for almost 4 years now and never even seen a mouse inside or outside. it was just very odd and i had trouble sleeping after that, also due to my son waking up and not wanting to go back to sleep.

has anyone ever had bats in their house? anyone have any suggestions on how i can confirm/deny that i may have some in the walls? i dunno if i want to just pop my head in the attic now lol, don't want any bats flying into my main part of the house lol! are there any other obvious signs to look for?

Look for mouse droppings or bat droppings up in your attic. They're not going to hurt you.

To add to this, bats tend to roost in the same area, and you'll have small piles of "mouse" poop. I always left them alone, and they found their own way out, but I never had that took up residence in my house.
