Anyone ever buy back a house that was once in their family?

My family is selling a house that saw three generations live there. I don't have the available funds right now because I'm tied up in another city and going through a questionable period with a small business and need flexibility for the next 6 months.

I'm planning to buy it back in 12-16 months time (if plans pan out). I'll end up eating it though--the buyer is planning to flip it in a little over a years time after doing a pile of renovations. He owns a house down the street from it and figures he'll invest his time into repairing it.

I spent every damn Christmas and Thanksgiving there along with living there continuously for 5 years of my life. I like hanging there and thinking about the past when everyone was still alive. I know--it's corny to get sentimental over a house ;) The neighbour even cried over the fact it's being sold outside of the family :Q

I'm guessing a lot of people promise themselves to buy back a house but never do. Anyone successful at it?

We had a little house in the Poconos that all sides of the family shared during the summer. It was broken into twice, since no one was around during the winter. It became a pain to drive everyone out there, so my grandparents decided to sell it. Every couple of years they drive back down & always go by it once or twice. It would only be 40-50g to buy it back, though I don't have that kind of money. Going in together on a home isn't a smart thing to do from my point of view.

I've thought about doing that at some point... maybe just own it and rent it out to others or something? I like the idea of owning the property I grew up in though, would be kind of nice, but it's purely an emotional thing.
