Anyone ever buy a car from carmax?

I am looking at an SUV, but they do not have any at the local carmax, but do at other locations. Has anyone ever bought a vehicle from their without looking at it?

How extensive is their inspection? Comparable to a certified inspection?

I looked at a car thru CarMax... but the one I wanted ended up being a heavy smoker's car, so I didn't get it thru them. BUT, I've heard a lot of good things about CarMax and would definitely consider them.

I really don't want to buy a car without seeing it even though I am familiar with the make and model. They do have the 5 day return policy, but I wonder how well they honor it.

In this case, they are about 10% less than the local dealerships

Great place to buy a car. 2 family members have bought from them - great experience every time. I will never buy a new car, but would be happy to buy one from them. I had a friend that worked there processing cars - and they literally (sp?) refuse 60-70% of the vehicles they get. The ones that don't pass go to auction.

My GF and I bought her 2001 PT Cruiser at Carmax. It had 7312 miles on it when we purchased and it came with a nice Alpine Stereo, a set of Infinity speakers and Dynamat installed.
Service was good, and they even gave her $600 for her dying Buick.
Most of the cars we looked at were in good shape and had not been smoked in. The inspection was decent on the car we purchased, the only things I could find wrong with it is that the coolant in the reserve tank was a little low and a small tear in the carpet in the cargo area. The car even had the original window sticker in the glove box. 😀
With that being said though I would still not buy any car sight unseen, no matter how good their inspection is nothing beats looking it over yourself.
