Anyone ever built their own guitar pedal?

CraKaJaX

Just got confirmation from the prof that building a Wah Pedal for a guitar would be a fine project. Schematic here. Has anyone ever done this? Or any type of guitar pedal? I have to order some parts, but it's no where near the ~$100 price to buy one from MusiciansFriend or anywhere like that. The op amp in it is $0.56 😀 anyway, any tips or pointers from any DIY guys?

I've rebuilt/replaced parts in guitar pedals before but I've never built one from scratch completely, I have some parts on order to build a chorus pedal for myself actually.

Get a NICE soldering iron, don't skimp out, and get some good solder too.

Make sure you get a Fasel inductor for your wah, they're the best 😉

Sweet, thanks. Where did you order your parts from? My prof recommended Jameco's

Digikey, Mouser, StewMac, all good places

Why don't you do a Supro distortion pedal? They're hard to come by, no moving parts, and you could make some money on eBay off of it if you do a decent job. Here's the schematics:

It's for an Analog circuit class. He said must have at least one op amp. I'm really not worried about the Wah though. I've been looking online for some ideas as to how to come about with the actual pedal. I'll be posting pics as I progress 😛 Any ideas for the pedal though? I've been looking at this.

This is a great site.. I'm not sure if that's legit with your prof that it's already packaged and what not.. but there are good instructions and parts with #'s you could order yourself.

Lots of great clones here, I'm building the chorus one soon and my friend did the 'mighty mouse' which is a RAT clone, pretty neat.

Wow, he really hacked up the teeth in that wheel arm. My old Morley pedal used a pulley system. Might be able to go that route instead.

Sweet, I don't think that would fly with him though... unfortunately. That's actually more then buying an already built one? 😕 I know the DIY Building an Amp kit is usually cheaper then buying it in the store. That's weird. Thanks though, I gotta come up with a parts list to order tonight though.

I was posting it more for the completed parts list and instructions there.. if he'd be ok with that or do you have to do it yourself or whatever.

Yeah the kit comes with a lot of different mods you can do so that's why it's a bit more probably. And that wah is 1000x better than most commercial wahs at that pricepoint.

Yeah, it's definitely good for a parts list. I'll probably be using some of that myself. Thanks 🙂
