I have original wood floors...600 or so square feet, which includes living room and bedroom. Kitchen and bathroom are tiled.

I want to buff up the floor...it's not that laminate type of floor, it's the old school natural wood.

I have gotten a few quotes and most companies want 70 cents or so per square foot, that's well over 500$...when I could probably rent something for less then 100$ and do it myself??

We have a dog, sooo it's probably a good idea to do this every year I assume.

Also, what's some good cleaner/protector that we should use afterward?

Where can we rent a buffer, and what should we use to buff it up with?

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I prefer wood floors unbuffed, and a little rough. I'd never do more than clean them.

To answer your question though... I'd just do it myself. I don't think it's that difficult, and you can certainly rent a machine for less than $500. You may even be able to split the cost with someone if you know anyone else with wood floors.

..preparation. you'll have to chemical strip the floor. then use the finest(light grit) paper that will yield results. Then seal the floor. The machine won't get all the edges so you'll have to get on your hands and knees and hand sand some of the edges. Go to homedepot and get one of their "how to" books and read up.

What do you use to clean it? i may hold off on buffing it actually...my dog will just beat it up again anyway, haha.

Our complex has 11 units...might be a good idea, that when I do - do it, I will do it when a few others are wanting to as well.

Just mop it with some oil soap, or something like that. It won't get sparkling clean or anything, but it does the job. I like wood floors to look used. Go into a 150 year old house, and look at those floors. That's probably pretty close to what I like to see :^)
