if so, could you tell me how it was and where it was located within the strip? like is it in the middle of all the cool attractions/hotels? thnx

btw, it's b/c i found a cheap rate for the room ($39).

Yes, I've stayed there. In the rooms, it's just like EVERY other hotel in Vegas - but all you really want is a bed and a shower, anyway.

It is located at the very north of the strip, past Circus Circus. In the summer, it's NOT within walking distance of the "Pseudo-Disney Attractions". It is closer to the good strip joints.

It is close enough to be a short cab ride away from the Cheesy stuff where you really don't have to worry about it. If you really want your hotel to be in the middle of the strip, check the Bally's, Harrahs, Aladdin, Tropicana, Flamingo, San Remo, and Monte Carlo. Those you can usually find cheap ~$100/night

i'm a poor college student just wanting to do some sightseeing $100 for a room?? geebus!

Stratosphere is a joke.
It's way too far away from the good parts of the strip to walk (well, doable but a pain in the ass), basically on the end of the strip. The Big Shot ride at the top is fun but expensive.

You might want to find a room at a closer strip hotel unless you get a REALLY good deal on a room there.

it's way far north on the strip ....cheap room - decent location = imperial palace

unless you're getting suites...all the rooms look the same..so the location of the hotel is most important..and the stratosphere's location is crap.

so true 😀

but he's going to sight see..so he might as well get a room near the center of the strip.

was ok, but its not on the "strip" slightly farther away.

the tower is alright, but its no cn tower. i ate lunch up on both.

The Stratosphere is on the 'seedier' end of the Vegas Strip. Its still a safe area, I don't feel unsafe walking around down there. There is a nice Howard Johnsons a few blocks away where we stay frequently, right next to famous Little White Wedding Chapel. The Stratosphere is near all the drive-through wedding chapels. 😛

The room rates there are much cheaper, except during peak 'crunch time' convention season, then they can be just as expensive. The last time we stayed there back in May we paid $34.95 per night with a coupon from one of those Nevada travel guides. It was clean, quiet, the pool is nice.

We ate at the Stratosphere's buffet. It was ok, not great. There were lots of things but much of it was not very good. We left feeling pretty full so I guess you could say "Mission Accomplished."

Its getting to where you can't get a decent buffet in Vegas under $30 per person.

The area sucks. You can buy crack less than 20 yards from the property. Only good thing is that one of the best Korean restaurants In LV is only 1 block away on Oakey.

It may seem like it is not too bad of a walk from the decent end of the strip, but when me and my buddies walked up there once. . . it sucked. Took a trolly back down to the Grand where we were staying. Basically Treasure Island and the Venetian are about the furthest north you would want to stay. You may be able to find some decently priced stuff at Harrahs, Imperial Palace and/or Flamingo. If you shop around you can usually find some pretty good package deals. First time I went with five friends it costs us like $345 each for round trip flight (DFW to Vegas) and four days (Sun - Thur) at MGM Grand.

The room at Strat is pretty crummy, I'd say only a little better than Motel 6.
It's pretty far from all the actions too.

You can find decent rate at Bally's, which is in the middle of the strip and pretty decent room.
Flamingo is not as good as Bally's but still better than Strat.

I once got Aladdin for $55 from Hotwire. (not weekend though)
The room is definately one of the best in term of what I paid.
Better than Bally's. You can't choose the hotel from Hotwire but from the ratings and comment, you can kinda guess.

If you are really tight with your budget, since Strat is already far from the strip, why not try Hilton ?
They usually have really good rates too.

By the way, save up for The Buffet at Bellagio. It's worth every penny.

going labor day weekend. gf and i got room at venetian for 115 an night! went on internet and there it was, all other places were going for 2 3 hundred cause its labor day. got lucky i guess.

The Strat is in the end of the old downtown district very far away from the mega resort type hotels that you may want to visit. If you are staying here and want to do stuff/ see attractions, you will need a car or else expect to pay $$ for taxis. I've been there a few times and it is ok. The top of the world resturant is VERY nice (a not very strict dress code) with of course an awesome view.
The only thing I would say that if you want stay at the newer section (the older section is like a motel 6 type room). About the only two things I really like about the strat is the single zero roulette and the so-called crapless craps.
You can prolly get a nice hotel on the strip via priceline if you are concerned about the price.

Right. 20 yards vs. the 40 yards you have to go to buy crack in the most upscale part of the Strip. ;-)

The rock sales on the upscale part of the strip go on three blocks off strip on Koval.

Those that you're aware of, anyway.

Discretion is better in nicer areas, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

There is a huge difference between 'isn't obvious' and 'doesn't happen'. Drugs can be bought in gated communities full of half-million dollar homes.

But owners of half million dollar homes dont push crack upon the visiting patrons like what goes on in the front of the Stratosphere. That area has always been a sh@thole. No other Casino owner in there right mind would build there but the moron Bob Stupack. The Strat has been on the market for 4 years now and stilll nobody is interested.

You must have been there on a bad day. Never did anyone push drugs on me when I was remotely near the Stratosphere, nor on anyone else. In fact, there were no unsavory types at all hanging around the Stratosphere, like there was further up Las Vegas BLVD.

I had a guy try to sell me some burned CDs, and saw a couple arguing over who would be the one to get a job for drug money, but that was at the Walgreen's up the street several blocks.

Hell, compared with some of the areas I've worked in, that area IS upscale. 😕
