Anyone ever been to Argentina?

Going down there in a couple weeks for work. Will probably be staying for 6 weeks or so.

I've never been there before (or really anywhere for that matter) and was wondering what to expect.

Will be staying near Cordoba (working at the Embalse reactor).

I am expecting the climate to be quite similar to what we get in the Ottawa valley. Not sure what the prevalence of English is though, but we should have some translators.

On a side note the company is flying us executive class... that will definitely be a first and I'm trying hard not to be looking forward to that more than the trip.

Anyway... Story time go!

Business class is great, but be careful about drinking too much on the flight. It might make you sick. I flew business class to Tokyo one time and ate a bunch of sushi and drank a lot on the flight and let's just say I launched a surprise attack on Tokyo's sewer system when I landed. 😀

Ha, I will keep that in mind. I think the point of them paying for us to fly business class is so we can work when we land.. so I may have to save a lot of the drinking for the trip back. 🙂

Buenos Aires has a little of everything.

Iguazu Falls is pretty neat--South America's version of Niagra Falls, only bigger. If you go up there, you might as well visit the the Itaipu Dam. That thing is massive.

Peninsula Valdes has a nature preserve. You can (or at least could) do some whale watching in the spring. Plus, you can say you have been to Patagonia.

Finally, I have been to Ushuaia in the Tierra del Fuego. It's a bit out of the way.

Cordoba is pretty nice. Just have lots of steak and wine. The fruits are nice too.

As to the women. You will like it.

No, English is not prevalent. It's a Spanish speaking country. Weather should be nicer than Ottawa.

Iguazu is much more impressive than Niagara Falls. But you won't be anywhere near it.

Sounds good. I have heard no end to the awesome beef and wine. Which is exciting for sure. Hopefully I'll come back speaking a few words of Spanish as it will suck to have to rely on the few bilingual folks we will be bringing.

As our flight plans are pretty rigid I won't get a chance to sight see very far from the general Cordoba area. Seems like a pretty landscape though!

I visited BsAs from xmas to new years, so I don't have the real experience since everyone was gone for summer break. The history is neat, and in Cordoba you should be near a bunch of wineries where Malbec is their drink of choice. Try and enjoy it and eat at a parilla (big meat grill), forewarning though they eat their beef well done. It's good, but different, try not to demand they make it rare or medium, they're usually uncomfortable to do so and they way they make it is still tasty.

There were plenty of hot chicks around but they all were frowning for some reason, I guess people don't smile like they do in the midwest 🙁

Just remember this and you'll be popular

"Las Malvinas son Argentinas"

It means The Falklands belong to Argentina 😎

You will probably find their Coca Cola strong. I miss the coke.

Women in Argentina are beautiful! They have Italian heritage and they dress to impress and plastic surgery is high. You'll get neck problems from all the craning your neck will do looking at the babes. 😀

Argentina is legendary for cheap high quality leather jackets that would go for $$$$ in the US. One of the first thing travel shows talk about nowadays hen visiting Argentina is getting an awesome leather jacket in Buenos Aires.

Also try to see some of Patgonia or hit Montevideo, Uruguay and their casinos.
