So I'm planning on going to the Microsoft Visual Studio launch event tomorrow in NYC.
I've already got a copy of Visual Studio, but it seems like a decent reason to take a day off.
Supposedly the thing goes from 8:30am - 3:30pm.

Anybody ever been to one of these? Is it worth showing up right when it starts, or is it pretty much the same content throughout the day?
What's to be expected?

I figure ... worst case ... it sucks and I've got the rest of the day off ...

Thanks,
Telstar

I went to a training meeting for Office2k and ended up getting Office2k Premium for free.

Free lunch, usally some type of free goody, pick up some useful tidbits of info and maybe make a contact or to with others working on similar projects.

If you do not expect a lot, then it is interesting to go to.

Is there a reason to show up when it starts? Like, do they expect everybody to really be there right at 8:30?

I always got free breakfast and easier seating. You also get a chance to see some of the third party exhibits before the break and everyone crowds around.

If you have some questions outside of the focus of the event, you may be able to find a M$ person to ask

There has been a few events that I bailed out early because they were over my head or did not focus on my needs.

Let us know how it goes. I'm registered for the March 7 event in Charlotte and would like to know what to expect.

Went to the Visual Studio .NET Launch event in NYC today.
Overall it was pretty informative. The speakers knew their sh*t (aside from the opening guy) and the different sections were varied enough so you could choose stuff that was relevant.

They raffled off a bunch of stuff ... Unfortunately I didn't win any of it, but smaller events would probably give you better odds of winning.
They also gave out free 60-day trials of VS.NET, T-Shirts, magazines, literature, and a few other trinkets, but it was a decent day of technical info, demos and other content related to VS.NET.

I have been to a lot. It's funny seeing people get excited about MS vaporware. I have to try out VS.NET to see how it is. Looks like overkill though.

I'll be participating, somewhat. MS will be announcing the .NET user group I put together and they provided us w/ a booth so people can register, discuss events w/ us, etc..

Should be fun...

I thought every person who attended is supposed to get a copy of WinXP. Did you get a copy or was that a mistake on their website?

Jon

P.S. I'll be attending the event in Tucson, AZ in a week.
