Anyone ever been locked out of your steam account?

I filled out a ticket online last night (UK time) because I managed to get locked out of my steam account.

I had forgot to change the email address linked to the account from one to which I no longer have access and had reformatted both my PC and laptop so they both had to be verified by email code to get into my account.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else had ever been in this sort of situation because as of now 24 hours later I haven't received a reply from them and I am itching to play some games.

I have been locked out of my battle.net account in a similar situation. It took about a week for me to gain access again. That reminds me to change my email addy in steam just in case.

i've been locked out of my steam account, and as long as you have the receipts of the stuff you bought in there, they'll usually get you back in. Took a couple business days.

Easy case, just contact Steam support and they'll get you sorted out. Will probably take a couple days since it's the weekend (as mentioned above)

At least your account hasn't been hacked into or anything. That situation is a lot scarier.

It's easy if you have a hard copy of any game you've registered on Steam. The same thing happened to me and I scanned my Orange box CD key and they changed the email for me.

Heh, thanks for the replies guys.

Steam sent me an email today, they had unlocked my account and it let me straight in to change my contact email. It was a bit annoying not being able to access the account over the weekend but I have nobody to blame but myself.

All sorted now.

Cheers Pup

I had my account stolen, and they got back to me in about a week. They usually take around 5-10 business days to respond. Steam has some of the slowest customer service of any service I know of.

Well considering I sent the email late on friday and they sorted it by midday today they took a grand total of 36 business hours to sort my problem out. Not perfect but certainly not the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Steam customer support blows. A service of that size and nature should have 24/7 phone support. A simple problem with Steam can take a week to get sorted.

I had my Origin account hacked and stolen and was back playing my games within 20 minutes of calling customer service.

Origin could use some better security measures, see above. :)

I've read about people who have these issues in the past, generally speaking you can recover your steam account if you can provide good proof that you are the person who payed for the games, you might be asked to provide proof of payment such as credit card details or original cd keys of titles you've added.

As others have mentioned, steam support isn't as good as it should be for a business in their position, but you will get a response from them, it can take anything from a few hours to a week, it depends on how busy they are and the exact nature of your problem.
