Today I had an interview with Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois for a job in one of their manufacturing plants. $14 an hour didn't sound too bad, so I figured I'd give it a shot, because they said they were hiring a lot of people. However, when I got home, my dad said that he talked to his cousin that works in one of the Caterpillar factories, and he said that the union workers were planning on striking in the Spring. He said they were hiring a bunch of young people now so they could train them and have them ready to cross the picket lines if they did strike. I really don't feel like working in a factory or, if I do, getting harassed by strikers and then getting laid off when the strike ends.

So...have you ever been a dirty, scum-sucking scab?:p

Yes, I did temporary work for an Ames factory once through Labor Ready. It was that or get evicted. I don't feel the least bit sorry about it because I think most people in Unions have it far better than they deserve and they should be thankful for what they have.

Hershey Foods had a strike about a year or two ago and everyone was making a big deal about how horrible it is that they have to pay more out of pocket for their medical insurance. Nevermind that EVERYONE IN THE FREAKING COUNTRY is paying more, no, since they belong to a union, the button pushers should get a break. Its not good enough that they get paid an outrageous amount of money to do tasks that you could train a monkey to do (I've heard as high as $25/hr on the production line.

I suggest you take the job if its good. That's the way capitolism is supposed to work. They're exercising their right to leave their job because they don't think it pays good enough/gives good enough benefits. Apparently you do, so take advantage of the situation while it is there. If someone tries giving you some crap about 'How does it feel to take away my job', just kindly remind them that you didn't take anything, they gave it to you.

BINGO.......take the job....let the union workers screw themselves as it is going to be the new norm for union labor in this country so they better realize it or get used to watching soaps. Umions are dying, not fast enough but they are slowly going to have to go away or all manufacturing in this country will end up in another land.....PERIOD.
