So I work as a ski instructor at Snowbird (utah). I work with 4-6 year olds, usually on their first day of skiing, sometimes not. Today I was with two returns and a newcomer, all of them had skied before and were quite good.
One of my returns (hereby known as "The girl") was on her final day. She has been in the program for a week straight and has been with me for the last three days. We had a great morning, learned alot and played alot of games.
Then lunch
Her sister (who is a year older and in a higher level class) was only in a lesson for a half day, and was going to ski with her dad (hereby known as "The dick") for the second half. She when the dick gets in he instantly calls out to his girls. And like good girls they come running to daddys arms. Ok fine. So he takes his older daughter out skiing, while his younger daughter (The girl) stayed behind. The dick should have known that The Girl wouldn't understand this. FFS she is four years old! I mean, how can you raise two girls for four years, and not forsee this happening? Have you always kept the two together? I was pissed at The Dick. So The Girl starts to cry, and cry, and cry...... Nothing I, or anyone else, did could make her stop.
She got ready, while crying, and on to the shuttle (still crying) and down to the lift (still crying) and for three whole runs (still crying). Girls are great at multitasking. When I have a boy who cries, he can't ski and cry. Once we start skiing, he has to either ski or cry, but can't do both. Girls on the other hand are experts at doing it. I had to endure snickers from the lift, guests on the mountain asking her whats wrong (then giving me accusing stares), and her yelling that she is having a bad time to other guests and staff.
And when I saw The Dick at the end of the day was I allowed to tell him off? Was I able to explain that he ruined the second half of my lesson for the other two children and his daughter? No. Customer service doesn't work like that. We want them to return next year. We only did half the runs we should have been able to and didn't make any improvment after lunch. I was pissed. (cheap bastard only tipped $5 too) (especially after dropping $1120 on The Girls ski education).
And, to add icing on the cake, one of my students (The Boy) told me at the bottom of our second run that he had to go pee pee really really bad. At the top of the lift he kept saying he couldn't hold it any longer. Now I had a crying girl and a boy who had to pee. At least he made it down the mountain and into the bathroom.
Good thing I had beer waiting for at home.
CLIFFS:
-Girls dad leaves her at lunch to go ski with her sister
-Girl cries for three hours while skiing
-I endoure embarrasment
-I hate the father with a passion
-I drink beer
