Anyone else work afternoon or night shift?

After taking my last job, I told myself that I'd never work anything but day shift (I've been working off shift my entire working life), but I loved my old job so much that I returned and took a night shift position. Now I'm dead set that I'll never do it again. I work 3pm-12am, and I'd almost rather work 11pm-8am. It's depressing knowing that in four hours my shift will *start* and I won't get home until after midnight.

Anyway, pity-party aside, do any of you that work off-shifts actually enjoy it?

I used to, different shift everyday. Sometimes I would get off at 4pm, other times at 8pm. Starting tomorrow I will be working 8-4:30 with no weekends!

I use to work the 2p to 10p shift, it was pretty good. At least I got to go out in the morning while everyone else was stuck at work, it was nice during the winter to be out in the sunshine.
They did some changes, now I work 12 hour shifts, starting at 8a or 8p for 3 days a week.

It's not that bad working nights, just as long as everyone else in your life knows that you need to sleep during the day.

I'd love to do three 12s. I'm a morning person though. I used to work 4am-2pm, and that was nice. It's a long day, but I'd much rather wake up at 330am than 1pm. It's tempting, because I know I could go to another department and work days and maybe even make more, but I really like what I do. It's a crappy choice to have to make.

I had a 6p-8a(hour lunch) for 3 days a week, 4 days off, it rocked. Tech support so 4 of those hours I had nothing to do.

I work at a 24 hr grocery store, the only hours I have are after my classes. So I usually work from 5pm to 12:30am.

Sometimes it sucks since you have to stand there even though it tends to slow down after 11.

I worked 2PM-10PM and it sucked. Then, I worked 7AM-3PM and it sucked.
I now work 9AM-6PM and it still sucks.

I wish I had your hours. I work 5:45pm to 6am 7 days in a 2 week period. Making some MS drugs, so I have to be suited up, hair net, etc...

When I was an operator at Motorola, I worked a similar shift to yours, 4PM to 12:30AM, twice during the week, and 12PM to 12:30AM on weekends. I liked the shift and nice with 10% premium while nights got 15%. :)

Now I work 6PM-6AM alternating Monday nights, Tue-Thurs at AMD as a maintenance technician. Its nice and quite, which is nice and doesn't bother me. 12% premium is nice too but the one thing I don't like is during my days off; I don't flip my schedule like some so I'm up until 6AM on my days off, there isn't a damn thing on TV and all my friends are catching Z's.

I did what I had to do to get my foot in the door after getting my degree, then set forth to get on days, which I accomplished in 6 months. :) Well, unless my schedule changes again. :D 10% premium working Sat-Mon(Tues) Tuesday is alternating.

2200 - 0600 (10pm - 6am). I don't mind the night shift, and if I do mind it, it isn't because of the hours.

This year I chose to work a 4/10 shift from 7:30 pm to 6:00 am Tues thru Fri. The last 14 years I've worked swing shift ... 2pm to 10:30 pm. I could work days but I'm not a morning person at all.

Ditto.

It wasn't bad at first. Then you realize that every time your friends go out or want to do something, you have to go to work. And you realize that you don't get to enjoy the beautiful sun during summer. You also realize how much of a pain it is to live by the schedule of third shift, because on your nights off, nothing is open and there is no good TV on.

It really wasn't worth the $1.00/hr differential in working a less desirable shift to miss out on... well... your whole life.
