This is the ONLY chain in USA that's worthy of its existence.

It's a steakhouse chain, vaguely similar to Outback. But Texas Roadhouse is a full-blown real steakhouse that specialize in meat, meat, and meat. And you get to choose your meat right at the counter next to the host:

Now, I've had my share of high-end steakhouses (Capital Grille, Morton's, all the fancy ones in NYC). So far they are not all that cracked up to be for the price.

Also, I can cook a mean steak myself. But Texas Roadhouse does something amazing that takes considerable effort at home- prime rib. It's fvcking absolutely delicious- especially with that au jus:

Texas Roadhouse is just a perfect price point and quality. I don't even look at the menu: 16 oz rare with chili, baked potato for fvcking $18.99 + an extra-tall mug of beer. Mmmmmm.

At similar budget, it's worlds above other chain steakhouses like Outback and Longhorn.

Interestingly enough, I don't see many people talk about it much.

I have eaten there. Meh.

Also, that meat is raw and needs to be cooked. Men are not dogs.

From what I've seen, it's a crappy chain. Never had a good steak there.

What, that meat (last pic) is not even rare (reddish pink). It's an evenly & perfectly roasted med-rare which is cooked thoroughly.

Blasphemy.

its ok. but slathering on a bunch of crap on a porterhouse is a sin.

I eat order nothing but prime rib there. I had their steak ONCE. It was underwhelming.

That slathering crap (mushrooms and sauce, whatever) is additional, doesn't come by default. And no one should order it.

imo, every one that I went too has been pretty crappy. maybe you've been to a good one?

you are right though. Morton's, etc. aren't worth the cost. I can cook a steak just as well or better for much cheaper.

In before vegetarians' comments how eating meat hurts dead animals.

I have never eaten at Texas Roadhouse. I will have to try them out sometime as there are 3 of them in Salt Lake valley.

I like Texas Roadhouse... We tend to stop there either in Fairfield or Tracy on our way to or from Tahoe.

The ones in Colorado Springs are pretty good, I've always had a good meal and good service at both locations.

Mostly true, except for the Blue Cheese Crust at Ruth's Chris. I was anti putting anything on a steak until I tried that. They take Blue Cheese crumbles and mix them with Panko bread crumbs, some cream and some fresh garlic. Then smoother it on top of your steak.

Next time I go there I'm going to ask if I can order a plate of just that :D

I like it. The price is right and the steak is always cooked to my liking. The wings, I didn't like so much, not enough heat, too salty.

I liked throwing peanut shells on the ground (at least, that's a thing at my local Texas Roadhouse) but I make a better steak at home (thank you Alton Brown!). I'll have to give the prime rib a try sometime.

I go to Longhorn Steakhouse just for the midwest shrimp lol. Steaks at steakhouses are about 50/50 but I have to say they do a better job than Applebees or ryans.

I visited a Texas Roadhouse last summer and the whole meal was delicious. I went for the usda choice sirloin and paid extra to have it smothered in onions and jack cheese. The house salad had a delicious dressing, delicious rolls with cinnamon butter, and the steak fries were crispy and delicious. A veritable orgy of tastiness. The salad and fries were my choice of sides.
I didn't notice any display of raw meat to select from as the OP suggests.

First time there in 15 years IIRC. I'll be going back.

Place is crap... Most chains in general are. They are consistant, but whenever i travel, i always try to enjoy to local spots when i go out for food and drinks.
I have been visiting the Grill House near me in Allegan MI as of late.
Kinda a neat little spot, you get to pick your own meat, then cook it on this giant grill inside of the place, kinda like BD's but you actually do the cooking...
Never new it was 5 miles from my house until i saw it on the travel channel.

Just because a place is a chain means it's bad. Also just because a place is local means it's good.

I've been to plenty of local steakhouses that were simply awful (that were highly touted).

Fair..
A roll of the dice on local spots for sure.. But i can go to an outback anywhere, when i have the chance to do something different, why not?

IIRC, they're the ones that serve steak with a heap of butter on top, right?

No thanks. The steak was decent, but nothing that I couldn't do at home. For the price it's not bad, but nothing that I'd rave about. Plus, butter has no business being on top of steak. D:
