anyone else? WCG BoincMgr hosed after ATI catalyst install

wayliff

Lifer
I have to Windows 7 x64 SP1 that were folding just fine this AM.
I saw there was a new catalyst driver out there and I went to the AMD site and downloaded the driver 'only', the same way I do it every time.

Installed it and rebooted fine.
Neither WCG BoincMgr is able to connect to the localhost...and I am puzzled.
I have tried reinstalling with no different results.

Wanted to see if anyone else came across this.

Thanks!

can you confirm that it is definitely a driver issue? in other words, if you roll back to the previous Catalyst drivers you were using, does the problem go away? also, what version of BOINC are you running?

I will look into that - I just came back to keep looking into this.

I am running the latest client availables. 6.10.58.

After the roll back from (7/7/2011) to (4/5/2011), I am able to fold again. (BoincMgr connected to localhost fine).
I am going to once again reinstall the newer drivers and see if it works, maybe something went south during the initial install.

if that doesn't work for you, and you end up with the same problem as before, consider that BIONC v6.10.58 is no longer the latest public release - you could give v6.10.60 or v6.12.33 - try the latter first, and if that fixes the problem, make sure it doesn't have any adverse effects on any of your other BOINC projects. if it doesn't fix your problem, try v6.10.60. you can download them both HERE.

The reinstall did not help.

As additional information, my other machine was rolled back to the May driver and it was able to fold again. (Other Info: my video cards are an HD3850 and an HD4850).

I will try to get the new Boinc client, make sure it works and consequently install the latest drivers. Will post back.

Thanks again.

Ok the new client works fine so far. I will let it run for a couple of days make sure that the WUs don't produce errors and after that I will proceed to take the latest video drivers.

I'm using 10.58 and just installed the newest Catalyst driver a couple of days ago, no problems, same setup, Win7 64bit.

are you still having any problems? or did BOINC v6.12.33 work for you?

Hello Sunny,

One of my machines was running the newest client however not with the newest AMD Driver. I have not been to my office yet to upgrade the driver...unfortunately I am unable to remote into them as something might have gone wrong with the network.

I will report back once I test it.

Thanks

I want to report that using BOINC v6.12.33 together with the latest AMD drivers worked just fine!

Thanks Sunny for pointing me to the latest Boinc client.
And hopefully this is helpful if someone else encounters the issue.
