I started watching the Barret-Jackson auctions last night, and couldn't turn away. Anyone else catch it last night? Today is the last day, it starts in 10 minutes; runs for four hours.

Last night, they auctioned off model number 1 of the production models for these cars:

2008 Shelby GT500 KR
2009 Corvette ZR1
2008 Challenger

The winner won the very first production models; and I believe all three were offered to see the car being built. Leno was introducing the ZR1, and was absolutely ecstatic about the car. Who ever won it was offered to pick it up in Leno's garage, and would be the first one to start the car. (Which, for me, would be really cool)

All three of the manufacturers were donating all proceeds to charity, which was pretty cool. The Dodge went for $400k, the Shelby for $550k, and the Chevy for a cool $1mil.

Other memorable cars would include some really, really nice Mercedes, and Shelby dominating the show. Three of his cars were in the top 6, including two 67' 427 Cobras, and his personal GT500 from 69'.

Ehh...I thought it was neat. Anyone else watch any? SpeedTV

I have always liked the B-J auctions. It would be really cool to pick up Carroll Shelby's 69' GT500..... What a car....

Did you catch the customized 1966 GTO that Tony Stewart bought on Friday? $105,000.....

I'm at work today and can't watch it as all we have at the firehouse is basic Comcast, and the Speed Channel isn't on it

Yeah, that one needs to be sent to a crusher. I can't believe anyone would want it.

I can't stand that f**king thing. It's because of BJ that we can't buy a car like a 70 Challenger with faded paint and 4 flat tires with all the exterior trim sitting in the back seat sitting in someones back yard for $500 anymore. And the reason you have to wait two+ years to even think about getting any new car that is remotely exciting if you don't want to pay double and triple MSRP. PS3 syndrome much? I don't remember it ever being like that before stupid shit like BJ became popular. It turned working on cars from a hobby anyone could pursue into an exclusive millionaires investment club, and for that, FVCK Barret-Jackson.

$1 million for a car that is only supposed for MSRP for $30? You've got to be fvcking kidding me. Can't wait to see all these investors buying out every dealer and selling them on Ebay for $100,000 and locking up the supply. I hope GM busts this practice by making so many Camaros that such practice is not economical. Laugh your ass off as they sit on Ebay for $100g while you go to the dealer and pick from 30 of them for MSRP.

In fact I think dealers should make the warranty on cars like this applicable to the original owner and void if the car is bought for resale. It's what I beleive Nissan plans to do with the GTR to make sure the car gets into the hands of enthusiasts who actually want them to own and drive the car, and not "investors" and "Ebay resellers" who couldn't care less and only want to flip an easy $30g for selling their "spot in line"

I remember hearing how Barret-Jackson would hire people to make bids on vehicles to inflate the value of the cars they were auctioning. I don't know if it's true, but it doesn't surprise me.

The auctioneering is strangely amateur for such pricing -demonstrated by their reliance upon the subterfuge of gibberish which they are occasionally caught out on, and have to fall back to actual bids.
