Anyone else waiting for a Samsung 830 512GB sale?

I'm probably one of few willing to spill ~$500 for this drive, but going from my 160GB G2, I can't justify anything else as a replacement. I guess I might be waiting a while, but I made the move to no internal HDD years ago.
I'm now ready to make the move to no external HDD at all. Simply SSD + cloud storage.

When that happens, it's going to be a Good Day.

Its going to be 700 dollars now. Price aint falling down yet

Maybe in a half year or year they take it to 400 dollars

Crucial POWNZ with their price cuts... gl

I still have my 2tb data drive in my rig, but I haven't bothered hooking it up since installed the 2 x 256gb m4's. Even with all of my currently active plus "once in a blue moon active" games installed, plus hibernation, etc etc etc, I'm still only using 102gb right now. 🙂🙂

I'm using about the same right now, ~100GB. 512GB would put me far beyond what I need, probably eliminating the need for any HDD. I like having my USB 3.0 external 1.5TB onhand, but it's probably going to go into the closet soon with the external Bluray.

Shiny discs and HDD.. yesterday's trash in my book. In the closet they go for the random occasional use and eventually upon some spring cleaning in the year 201x, they'll get tossed.

Just purchased a 512GB Crucial M4 for 400ish. Still to receive it.

Will be used for my os, apps, steam, installed games etc. Will use HDDs only for my TV shows, movies, data etc.

I had to jump on the Crucial 512gb M4 for $345 shipped. If that comes up again you should forget about the Samsung.

Earlier this week Newegg had the Samsung 830 256GB for $190. Have you thought about just RAIDing two of those together?

The 830 is so rare in Canada, only Tigerdirect that I know of carries it up here. 512GB goes for $700, compared to $350 for Crucial, crazy price difference.

Well officially the Crucial is 399.99 ,,,,,,,,,,, go check and avg out prices its going at 400 dollars. Also once amazon took it up to 420 no free shippin, so ya,,

This M4 was 850 dollars when it first came out. A year later you get it for 400 like me,, or whatever price you got.

The Crucial at $400 is extremely tempting. And you're right, but it's a tough call. I have nothing against the Crucial but I'd largely prefer the Samsung. I've had a boner for it since it was released. Seems like the most worthy replacement for my 160GB G2.

I'd agree completely if I wasn't already on a 160GB drive. If I were on the 80GB Intel G2 I'd probably jump faster on one of these deals. I don't even have SATA6gb (not that the lack of this bothers me), and can afford to sit on my 160GB until I either see the Samsung at the ~$500 level or until I update my system (no earlier than Haswell).

I don't really want a system update at all though until this one breaks.. it does everything I need, just wouldn't mind a larger SSD so I can get rid of this antiquated USB 3.0 external HDD. It does 100MB/sec read/writes so I'm fairly content with it for the time being.

I've seen the Samsung 830 128GBs for $89. The 256 for $149 (this past week) but the 512 stays at $539. Why? The Samsung 840 and 840 Pro are coming out and still no sale. Don't get it.

I don't want to RAID 256s. Actually I do have a two Samsung 256 830s in a RAID 0 for a DAWs audio and sample files. It's on a 3g buss but runs well plus I have more space. But I don't want to RAID two more. I'd have to buy some external enclosures and connect via FireWire 800 or eSATA and is rather not have to do that much. Btw I have a 2008 MacPro, so a 512 boot/app/library drive, and 7200 64MB 2TB HDD and the 256s in RAID fill up my 4 bays. So I'll still have to buy an empty FW 800 enclosure for TM backups. But that's cool.

Sumsung needs to drop the 512s to Mushkin or SanDisk prices. They'd sell a bunch. Maybe enterprise is buying them up due to their reliability and good incompressable data speeds. Who knows but it's ridiculous. Ill grab a C4, Muskin or SanDisk.
