Anyone else using the ATI tray tools 1.5 beta for 4800s?

I just got it, and finally going over the stupid 790 oc limit for my 4870, but anything above 825 core and 66c makes it crash even if I set fan to 100%, and I don't think the volt controls work.

if you checked that 4870 core/mem oc benchmark, you actually get better framerates out of faster memory on these things.

I'd see about getting that mem over 1100, and then the core as high as possible secondly. Just watch out for heat on the memory, and be warned of possible degradation on the qimonda I've heard about.

If i had a 4870/x2 I would def be using this program. I just can't convice myself to build my dream sig.

Can't go above 1.263v without a hardmod- the volt control is really for the 4850's which come stock 1.17 and can go up to 1.2v via Bios. Sounds like you got some good clocks though :thumbsup:

The voltage controls in ATT are especially useful for undervolting HD4800 series cards, in 2D IDLE mode, from the stock 1.263v setting.

Well that's probably the limit, temps don't define how far you will go, they help but if that were the case we would all be running 1ghz core at 99c.

You probably can't go higher because the core lacks voltage to operate at higher clocks than 820. Some people can't even get their 4870 to run at 800 core...

Yup mine's not game stable at anything over 790. Furmark is stable up to about 815 core.

until you do the vgpu hardmod. then you might get some high temps.

This is a pretty ridiculous assumption. Fact of the matter is that ATI was playing catchup with these cards and still don't have the undisputed fastest/most powerful GPU...the only reason it has had any success was because of its price/performance. If ATI could comfortably clock these things @ 800MHz or 850MHz stock, they'd have certainly done so. But reality seems to be that they're already pushing the card as much as they can safely go without compromising stability or power consumption/heat production.

An inability to overclock (or do so easily with impressive results) does not mean they're intentionally blocking your ability to do so...

Also, not only is ATI Tray Tools a 3rd party product, it is currently in a new and unproven beta for the 4800 series.

If you bought the card to get impressive overclocking results you got the wrong card...@ 625MHz stock the 4850 would be better for you because going from 625 to 800MHz is obviously going to be more impressive than going from 750MHz to 800MHz. Granted, the performance is going to be worse...but that's obviously something you don't seem to care about.

Not exactly. CCC has a section that allows very easy overclocking to a certain point. This is one of the first versions of ATT that allows fan control and overclocking on the 4800 series cards. Hopefully a future version will enable some sort of software voltage adjustment.

I think the 800-something wall is ATi's way of saying, "don't run the cards any faster, they'll fry because of our terrible fan speed settings!" 😀
