Anyone else thinks this sounds suspicious?

I was offering to sell an item to a member, and he tells me that he would not be willing to use paypal (due to the ubiquitous negative past experience with their CS), and requested my banks routing number and my account number (claiming that no harm could be done with that information - yeah right).

He wanted to deposit the finds directly into my account, and on receipt I could ship my item.

To his credit, he said that he was open to other methods of payment. I just thought this seemed awfully funny.

Call your bank.

Ask him to send a money order (if he will do that, then chances are he isn't an identity stealer... never know tho...)

Well, if I was going to wire you money or do an electronic deposit to your account I would need that information. Routing+account number.

He could easily be a scammer, or could be someone that is wanting to use wire or ACH.

Yep. Personally, I'd rather just have him send it via USPS MO or use COD.

well, when you write a check to someone, you're bascially giving them the same information.

i think people are not allowed to take funds away without your permission anyway. or they could try but you're protected.

If you are so concerned; then ask your bank to open another account for you for such purposes.

Ask him for the name of his bank, call them to see how much they charge for a wire transfer. If they do it for free or for a minimal charge, the guy may be legit.

Don't forget, your bank may charge u for an incoming wire transfer too

the account and routing number are all he would need to trasnfer money OUT of the account as well as IN.
