I think they should. I know there's big money involved with bowl games, but there was a tournament to decide the champs, not some computers. The top 8 teams in a 1 game elimination tourney, sounds good to me.
Sounds good but will never happen. The NCAA needs the money from the other bowl games. And besides, if there was on;y a limited # of teams that could participate what would hapen to teams like Iowa State who will finaly be bowl eligable.
Edit: Yes, I agree. Bowl games are kinda dumb, but how else are the little colleges going to get some recognition. If there were playoffs of some kind, it would end up being the same teams winning every year. This way the lesser known colleges can actually strive for something - a bowl game. And keep in mind how many thousands of colleges there are in the U.S.
I personally love the bowl games. I also think a playoff system is needed. They ought to keep the bowls, but use the upper tier bowls also as playoffs.
I agree that the bowl games and BCS are completely ridiculous. But it seems there is too much money in these games for any real changes to be made to the system. It's sad that Division IIA football has a playoff but the "real" division doesn't.
