Yes...I've been very tempted. Generally I have no interest in an SUV...but I know my wife would like one and you can get some ridiculous deal on some nice SUV's. I'm trying to keep myself in check.

Not really. I've been driving a borrowed pickup truck for the last few weeks because I'm moving to a new house, and I hate it. It feels very oafish - and it's just a little Chevy Colorado. The suspension feels very loose. I'd much rather drive a car than a truck or a truck-based SUV.

The Colorado is really bad though. I am shocked that GM even allowed it out. GM puts out really good cars, and REALLY bad ones.

Agreed...especially when compared to the Tacoma and Forester...they blow the Colorado/Canyon out of the water.

The H@ has overnight gone from Status Symbol to counter culture. You will not impress anyone in one anymore. Tehy will think you are a jerk for ruining the envionment more than they will think you have money.

Overnight? I don't think they were costly 'nuff to be a status symbol, as such, but were at least a novelty in the early 1990's. However, they have been seen as "socially unconscious" for many years: a Douchebag Symbol. Plus, at least the early ones (the real trucks) had some potential use whereas the later were merely style sans substance.

I must admit, it is amusing to see all the ghetto Escalades being hocked for a tuppence. I quickly scrolled down the ebay list and the last one happened to tout "24's" (referring to wheel diameter) as if that is a positive selling point when it is indeed quite the reverse.

I was tempted and bit.

I got a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Regular Cab Short Bed with 120K miles for $7K. This is a second vehicle for me to tow stuff and off road.

So far I'm impressed with the relatively good mileage. I had a weekend of a 300 mile trip and several hours of off roading and returned 18MPG. It has the 5.3 V8 too. I imagine if I wasn't off roading I could have returned 20MPG out of it... with 305HP to boot.

My other vehicle is a 2000 Mazda Millenia that only gets 22MPG on average. My wife has a 1994 Honda Accord that gets upper 20s in the city and low 30s on the highway. It's our beater car with 255K miles. We use it mainly for trips and driving around town.

I'm tempted to buy a cheap old used beat up pickup. I want one so that I don't have to rent a truck or borrow a friends van every time I want to buy some drywall, furniture, or anything. I have some work to do on my driveway, I want to get some more chairs for my deck, I want do replace some of the paneling in my basement (old school style "finished") with drywall. I eventually want to buy a new hot water heater since the one I have is original from when the house was built in 1980. I also want the capability to load a snowmobile into the back via a simple ramp (don't plan on buying a trailer and initially just planning on getting 1 sled.)

Anyhow, I was thinking of paying like $500 cash for an old junker, but it seems like I could get something that would probably last a long time for $2000, so I may just have to rethink my plan.

I didn't realize things were like this. Yeah it's tempting. You can get a loaded SUV for thousands under the KBB price.

it takes a special class of people to do something like that... to see that sliver of a chance to finally own a "dope ride" and grab it even when unnecessary.
one of my neighbors (a couple) has a sedan and a nice wrangler. they recently picked up an H3, yet it just sits there and maybe moves 1 or two days out of the month. i'm sure the wrangler is at least as capable and they aren't impressing anyone with an H3.

yea, H3's are dirt cheap

the selling price may be going down, but the gas milage is staying the same while gas prices continue to increase.

not worth it

I saw something like that with a silverado for sale. It had low profile tires and the guy said the rims cost $2400 alone! (I think he was trying to get like $4000). I had to think that buying $2400 rims had to be the absolute stupidest purchase ever. Not only will he never get the money back on resale, but the retarded low profile wheels actually reduce the usefulness of the truck, which IMO is probably a pretty important factor in the used truck market.

The carmax near me has a couple 2006 Dodge Dakota 4-door, auto, v8 magnum, 4xs pickup trucks with around 30K miles for $14K

if I had the money to spend on another car, I'd buy one

Indubitably. In that case, one would think da playa would be better equipping the truck with a sensible set of second-hand wheels and tires before selling, and flogging the novelty ones seperately. Heck, sell 'em for scrap if a bigger fool cannot be found.

Also, if they are selling due to fuel consumption, they only made it worse with such absurdly heavy wheels: further crippling economy and every aspect of performance (braking, acceleration, handling, suspension comfort). Yeah, and the tires cannot support a load either.

I almost went with an SUV but meh I like having a bed to haul shit in. As far as hummers, I'd have to be rich to afford the gas and I would go with the military version. Then I'd mount a .50 on the roof.

has enough eggs.... alright.

Sorry. Maybe that's a regional thing. Huevos = eggs = balls around here.

But yes, it has enough eggs :p
Cojones?

Yes, that would work too.

With the prices that low on Expeditions, if I ever need a major repair I'll just pick up a newer version. :)
