Thank you! Laugh tracks suck. The only thing they've ever done for me is deaden my appreciation for a joke. The track is used far too often on lines that aren't funny at all. I think it's a filler so that the writers don't have to come up with a full 22 minutes of material.

Laugh tracks=bad

They suck soooo much. Thats why I LOVE arrested development. Such great humor, but you actually have to think to get most of the jokes (and trust me they have jokes in almost every line).

yeah, many british comedies don't bother anymore, maily because they're not blatant puns. I think a lot of the problem in the US are people are a little bit slow and need to be prompted when to laugh...

British comedies aren't funny. I think you want them to be funny so you can feel like more of an intellectual when you 'get' their 'jokes'.

I suspect that you don't 'get' the 'jokes' as they surpass your intellectual capacity. I can't find Japanese jokes funny because I simply cannot understand them; similarly, you don't find Brit comedies funny for the same reason. Do bear in mind that English language differs from the US dialect, so there may be language barriers impeding your understading.

Out of interest, which comedies do you have in mind?

that funniest animal videos on animal planet has a laugh track. the commentator should be shot, since his commentary and the laugh track is horrible. Some of the vids themselves are actually funny in themselves, but then the host/commentator starts talking, and ruins the video.

Someone should shoot the phokking guy.

Some shows are worst that others. I only notice them is certain shows and those are the ones that are bad.

...which is basically all of TV I think.

I think there's alot more shows out there that ARN'T filmed "in front of a live studio audience" than we think. So right, essentially some actors on stage and a laughtrack to pad their egos?

I really like shows like Americas funniest animals, where there's just one guy, telling the worst fvcking jokes, to nobody. But it seems like he's tearing up the crowd! Fool'd joo!

Sports Night didnt have a laugh track. It lasted two seasons.

Watch the DVD's of MASH with and with out laugh track. They arent funny when its gone. Same with HBO sitcoms like Dream On.
In reference to the British shows, watch the old stuff like The Good Life and Fawlty Towers. The things that had laugh tracks were funny.
Its sad but we need laugh tracks to know when somethings funny. Without it we just feel sorta lost.

Animated shows are the exception. They know they're not gonna have background laughter so they have to try harder and tell different types of jokes to get a good reaction.

(Yes I am aware the first few episodes of Sports Night did have a laugh track. But it was very mild and didnt go far into the season.)

The Office isn't funny and neither is Ali G.

But I think it's funny because you seem to feel superior to people just because you 'get' jokes that are on TV, while others don't or just don't care.

The Office might be the worst sitcom I've ever seen.

Mr. Bean sure tested the intellectual capacities of most people.

Ali G interviews Kobe Bryant

Ali G : Check it. West Side. This be Ali G representing with my man Kobe Bryant. Yo, respect.
(Bryant nods head.)
Ali G : How many springs does an official ball have in it?
Kobe : How many springs?... It doesn't have any springs in it.
Ali G : Why does it bounce then?
Kobe : It's air. There's air in the ball.
Ali G : Well, there's air in this room. How come this room ain't bouncin'?
[Silence.]
