Fresh install of XP/home on new HD. Anytime I install the FAX console, user logoff times exceed 95 seconds. If I remove the FAX components, logoff returns to normal. The event viewer says something similar to this:

>Windows saved user (computer name/user name) registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.<

Is this normal XP behavior? It seems odd to me. Do I have a setting somewhere I need to correct?

Any ideas?

Current Hardware:
Asus A7V BIOS 1011
Athlon 1 Gig processor
512 Mb Mushkin PC133 SDRAM

New hardware coming:
Asus P4s533 SiS 645
Intel 1.8 Gig processor
1x512 Mb PC2700 DDR

Bump.

No one else has this problem?

I have the new HW but haven't had time to install it and reinstall the OS, etc.

Yes, I have seen it a few times at work on my new XP pro rigs.

I had some issues with a number of the machines that it happened on (3 or so). I reimaged the machines (from my custom image) and it seemed to have gone away.
I tracked my problems down to a bios problem for the IDE subsystem. Once I flashed to the new bios (which had the fixes for the IDE controller) and reimaged, it all magically dissapeared. NOt sure if they were related, but I do not seem to have any issues like that anymore.

Well I've installed the new Asus P4S533 mobo, Intel P4 1.8 Gig processor, and 512 Mb PC2700 DDR ram; reinstalled XP/home, and once the fax components are installed, I run into the same delays as before.

If it weren't for my digicam, I think I'd revert to Win2k pro/sp3.

And how about this? I set myself as administrator account and a separate account for my wife (as a limited account). My wife's account won't load OE 6 as a limited account. I get a couple of error msgs saying my HD is out of space and that it can't initialize MSOE.dll. However, if I change her account to an administrator account, OE 6 works just fine. I've deleted and recreated her account.. but always the same problem. It persists through 3 installs of XP.. and 2 different subsystems.

Windows... 2 steps forward.. and sometimes 2 steps back. Maybe I outta look at Lindows or somesuch. ;-)
