I caught a couple SCCA races on Speed last night, and I haven't been that entertained by a race in years. I watched a showroom stock class with Mazda3s, previous-gen Civics, Cobalts, and Neons. All the cars were apparently stock except for light engine massaging and stripped interiors. Most even had stock wheels. The old Civics seemed to be the cars to beat until the very end when the top runners used up their tires and a Mazda3 was finally to squeak by and then run away from the pack.

The driving was really exciting, with lots of passing, close battles, light bumping, cars driving off the track to pass other cars, etc. Watching a couple cars closing fast on a hairpin, neck and neck while they push against each other so hard that smoke is pouring from their front tires, or rounding entire corners literally touching bumpers was exciting. Those guys were driving 12/10ths, in their own cars. The winner was this old guy and his wife was crying and kissing him, and that had a lot more impact for me than the silicon bitches and champagne at the end of the big races.

I watch everything on speed. The only downside is bad teeth and permanent insomnia :)

Yep... it's great when you can catch those races. I didn't see the ones you're talking about specifically, but I try to catch them if I know they're going to be televised.

British, Australian os USA style?

The SCCA runoffs are wildly entertaining as are the vintage races hels at Laguna Seca.

Speed needs less Pinks, gues the 1/4 mile time, and other stupid programing. Living the Low Life is suprisingly entertaining though.
