Anyone else pre-ordering the Verizon iPhone 4 tonight?

Nope, those are big upgrades for people who like to look at specs. In reality, dual-core and 4G make very little difference. Apps will still be coded for single-core, battery life might be worse with dual-core, and HSPA speeds are enough for phones.

Big upgrades:

-Quadrupling of the screen resolution
-Front camera
-LED flashlight (I'd never get a phone without one)

Yep, those all appeared with the iPhone 4.

dont forget that with the new verizon iphone they still didnt fix that antenna issue, so youre buying a phone with a known serious defect. i still have 3gs so i cant say firsthand but a lot of people say that even with the rubber case it still disconnects.

also verizons 3g data network is much slower than att's so its going to be a lot slower than the att iphone youre used to. one more reason to wait for an lte iphone

Verizon's 3g isn't THAT much slower, and as for LTE most people shouldn't care that the iPhone 5 will probably have it. Because unless they're stupidly lucky they won't live in an area that has LTE until probably the iPhone 6 or 7. You think come July and the iPhone 5 Verizon will magically have awesome LTE coverage?

i doubt that . ATT has the SLOWEST network. Of course that is due to the infestation of iphoners. They are voted worst carrier of the year.

This has probably been covered, but two reasons why an iPhone is a front-runner smartphone for me:
1) not a 4.3" screen. Seriously, I don't want to carry around a giant slab in my pocket. A bigger screen is nice but not when I have to make the sacrifice of a bigger phone.
2) Who cares about LTE? It's going to be more expensive, that's a given. Given that I spend most of my time at home with wireless or in class with wireless, I doubt I'll even be using that much data.

Why I won't be getting an iPhone so early:
1) no tiered plan. Why'd they remove the $15/mo for 150mb? I mean, unlimited is nice, but why not offer tiered pricing from the start?

a lot of people live in cities. i live in san francisco and weve had lte since december although there arent phones yet

and yes, verizon 3g is a lot slower, like 1/3-1/2 the speed of att. and when downloads take longer, it increases the chance the download will cease, which it often/usually does with verizon. verizon data service is HORRIBLE!!!!

i even doubt that. i have yet to find a place in the bay area where i could get verizon but not att. att's 3g is everywhere in the bay area and its much faster. at my house in the suburbs i cant get verizon data at all, but i get att on my iphone as well as i do in my condo in downtown san francisco. att has 3g everywhere it counts, verizon doesnt

Well seeing as a 4.3 phone like the Evo is slightly larger than an iPhone, that's a moot point. It's not that big at all. People who say 4.3" phones are huge slabs haven't held one. The Droid X is much larger since it has more bezel but the Evo doesn't have much bezel around it. Many people are fine having a smaller screen but having the rez of an iPhone with a 4"+ screen would be about as good as it gets.

I used to think this way as I had a HD2 for a while but now I dont criticize people anymore when they say they don't want big phone.
The EVO is a big phone and weight alot more.
Same size as the HD2 but much thicker.
I don't mind bigger phones but I understand when people say they don't want bigger phones.
My preference would be a 4" phone.

I actually have a 4.3" HD2, 4" Vibrant and a 3.5" IP4 in front of me.
Loading up full websites on default before any zooming, I can see the text clearly on the IP4 as where its blurry with the other 2 because of the lower resolution.(maybe it has to do with the browser too).
Higher resolution instead of the normal 800x480 definately makes a huge difference.

People who say a 4.3" phone is too big probably has never own a 4.3" or 4" phone. I have an iPhone4 now and I still miss that large screen.

I'm on the fence about what to do. My number is eligible for an upgrade right now and then the other two are eligible in December. I could always get the iPhone now and if I don't like it, get either iPhone5 or an Android later. Currently I have an OD and like it, but it's slow compared to what's currently out there.

Any modern phone will feel like an upgrade to your original Droid. If you can still get a 5 later then get the 4 now.

More than half of Verizon's current Android and Blackberry users indicated they are likely to switch to the iPhone when it arrives on the Verizon network on Feb. 10, according to a new survey.

Online sample company uSamp, which conducted a "highly profiled online panel" of more than 700 smartphone users in late January, published the results Thursday. The survey found that 54 percent of respondents who have an Android or BlackBerry smartphone on Verizon are either very likely (25 percent) or somewhat likely (29 percent) to purchase the Verizon iPhone when it arrives next week.

The report could signal particularly grim news for Research in Motion, as BlackBerry users demonstrated higher interest in switching to the iPhone, with 66 percent indicating a probable switch, compared to 44 percent of Android users. RIM's BlackBerry has lost significant share on Verizon as the carrier has heavily promoted its Android offerings. With the arrival of the iPhone, the BlackBerry on Verizon has been relegated to third place.

Also of note, 26 percent of AT&T customers reported plans to purchase the Verizon iPhone on launch day. A larger survey from ChangeWave in January found that 16 percent of AT&T users were planning to switch, though 26 percent of AT&T iPhone users said they would change to Verizon.

For AT&T users intending to jumping ship, dropped calls were the main reason for leaving, with 48 percent of AT&T customers who plan to buy the Verizon iPhone citing dropped calls as the cause.

When the first reviews of the Verizon iPhone emerged Wednesday, reviewers indicated that the Verizon iPhone drops significantly less calls than the AT&T iPhone.

uSamp's survey also found that men are more likely to switch to the Verizon iPhone: 32 percent of males compared to 20 percent of females. As expected, younger respondents indicated they were more willing to wait in line on launch day, as well as more likely to switch overall. According to the report, among Verizon BlackBerry and Android smartphone owners, 71 percent of respondents aged 18-24 and 60 percent of those aged 25-34 are planning to switch.

uSamp reports a 3.6 percent margin of error for their results.
