Don't know. Still won't fix the overly sensitive screen.

Thats how a real smartphone is supposed to be. You've gotten used to the lag shit LG Dare, which is why you're having problems with a responsive phone.

Over time you'll get used to it though.

lol... this is the first I heard someone wants their phone to be "slower" and "less responsive"

lol well then i challenge you . I will be using swype :)

Swype isn't that fast compared to a person who's nutts on a straight on screen keyboard. I've seen people who could absolutely annihilate a Swyper. I can hit about 70 WPM on an iPhone keyboard and I'm not even anywhere near the top for speed typers.

Lets put it this way. Do a search on youtube on iphone speed typing and you'll see plenty of people that can type insanely fast. If alot of people can type fast on the iphone and you can't, the fault lies on you and not the phone.

And I'll put it this way...there are people that can hunt and peck type 100 wpm, does that mean that the rest of us who are two handed, home keyers are wrong too?

It's called a preference. It's the same thing as a manual vs. automatic argument. I grew up on mechanical keyboards with actual feed back and simply prefer some sort of acknowledgement of button press.

Like I said, I love the touch screens for everything else. Flipping through music lists, browsing calenders, web browsing, basic navigation, ect. But when it comes to things like typing and entering phone numbers, I like my real keys.

I don't get why everyone is so surprised by this. Some people (particularly the older crowd) still prefer physical buttons, and that's fine. They make enough smartphones that way.

Not sure why you didn't get a Droid 2 or something, though. Unless you really don't have much interest in smartphones.

I've grown to like touchscreens, and I have to say, Apple has the best virtual keyboards, I have 4 possible keyboards on my EVO, and swype, and I still don't like any of them as much as the iOS keyboards...

The multitouch Gingerbread port is damn close though

Yeh, it's frustrating because I *wanted* to love the iPhone. I've actually been holding back from grabbing the latest gen Ipod touch because I knew the phone was coming to verizon. So I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone there. The touch screen, fit and finish and display on the ipods are second to nothing when it comes to the mp3 functions and "smart" features on the phone. And the face time was an intriguing option if my wife and I both got one. She works a lot of nights and weekends so it's a good way to say goodnight between her and our daughter. A little more personal than a speakerphone.

I really wanted to like it. The droids don't interest me much, short of some hardware/layout features (like capacitive touch or keyboards). But by most accounts their battery life is horrible (deal breaker for me) and they just don't have the maturity that the Apple products and applications have.

Just found out you cannot get a 1 year contract with the Iphone. Only a 2 which is a major DEAL BREAKER for me.

same. shitty that verizon and apple are going to screw all the cdma ip4 adopters, but its a good way to score some etf fees and make some serious bank when ip5 rolls out in 4 months.

They also have a good FUD pitch in that "Well you better sign up now and lock in your unlimited data before the tiering kicks in".

The store I was in yesterday had sales people saying it was going to switch over in the next week or two.

This is unfortunately one of the main reasons I'm considering buying a Thunderbolt and not waiting for the Bionic. If it switches before then I will be seriously annoyed.

I understand the preference, I have some friends who are fans of the keyboard. They recently switched to touch phones and they although it took some time, they are decent at typing.

If you take your iPhone off vibrate the keys will make a tick noise. I found this noise feedback increased my typing speeds quite a bit.

Overall the iPhone has the best virtual keyboard with the best predictive text. I've used some android virtual keys, but they weren't as accurate or responsive.

PS. I just typed this entire post on my iPhone.

Cool. I'll have to try it out again. I'll see if they can take the security thing off so I can get it into landscape mode and then bump up the volume on it.

Also, can anyone comment on what happens for message notifications? I read some comments that the iphone doesn't give a notifier when a new txt is received. Is that true?

that is not true at all, it will vibrate or play the sound you have or whatever, and it pops up on top of whatever is currently going on at the current time on screen. you can either click the close button that gets rid of the notification and lets the phone know you acknowledged it, or you can click reply and it goes directly to the message app and lets you reply.

i noticed last night when i was eating, that i got a text and did not check it because i had crap all over my hands. few minutes later i heard the text sound again, few minutes later again. i figured i had 3 texts. however when i looked at the phone i only had 1 text.

then i remembered there is a setting i had turned on which is "repeat alert" and i wasn't exactly sure what it is. well now i know heh. it will keep alerting you until you acknowledge the text.

I believe it will only give you two extra notifications (3 total?). i.e., it won't be beeping all night if you fail to acknowledge it.

Correct, it will only give 2 additional reminders 5 minutes apart.

Also, there is no indicator LED on the iPhone; you'd have to hit the sleep/wake button to see if you've missed any texts or calls...emails don't show up as missed alerts either.

As for not going to landscape in-store...make sure they don't have the orientation lock turned on. You can see a little lock icon in the top status bar near the battery indicator.

I'm interested in a jailbroke vphone and the wifi tethering app you can get. I could use that a lot for work...and I'm not about to pay VZW another $20 freaking bucks a month on top of the $30 data plan for the wifi hotspot.

I think I'm the only one who thinks the Android soft keyboards are better than iPhone ones (although it's probably more a function of the bigger screen size on my Evo vs my iPod touch).

One thing that I love on Android is the Handcent popup reply box, which is like the iPhone notification but with a text input box so that you can reply without ever switching applications.

As for the VZW iPhone, I'm on Sprint so it's a no go for me, but I guess my dad's been eyeing them (he's always used the 99 cent phones up until now).

Yeah I think something like that for the iPhone natively would be good. You can get the samething as android (chompSMS?) on the iPhone, but you have to jailbreak.

if you Jailbreak the iPhone, BiteSMS is the way to go, with quick compose by tapping a volume button, as well as the quick reply as mentioned above.

I recently just jailbroke my iphone just to use BiteSMS. Its a pretty slick app. Something I've noticed about Jailbreaking though, it makes your phone unstable. I guess its an acceptable tradeoff.

how unstable is it? my ex used to complain her ipod would get super unstable, but i JBed my iPod Touch 1G, helped another friend JB a iPod Touch 2G and I JBed my own iPod touch 4G recently. Never any stability problems. I ran with stock for a while too, and I haven't seen much of a difference.

If there are app stability issues, those are strictly app only because I've seen App Store updates giving me fixes for those crashes.

I JB my iPhone 4 OS4.2.1 phone last week and notice no difference in stability. I don't have a billion apps or hacks installed (winterboard themes, or whatever) just SBSettings, BiteSMS, and LockInfo.

Way faster than my old 3GS from a year or so ago, looks like this hardware is much better suited.

I have noticed that my battery life is slightly worse, but I can still get through a normal day for me with no problems, but I hardly use voice.
