And no more pre orders.

Apple & Verizon have both stopped taking pre orders.

Here's an interesting survey...

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ry_users_to_switch_to_iphone_survey_says.html

yes lots of people are selling their droids to get iphone. the luster has worn off the droid brand and now people just want something that works. blackberry has awful data and they dont even have a bb6 phone on the horizon at verizon. within 2 years iphone will have 80% smartphone market share unless hp shows up with a decent palm phone

Oh man, that can't be good if people follow through.

Several analysts have suggested that Android took off like crazy because there was no CDMA iPhone in the US, it'll be interesting to see if that's accurate or not.

iP5 will be the acid test IMHO.

I know quite a few people that have an iPhone and a second phone for voice calls on Verizon.

Yea we won't see the full effect until June.

I think Android took off because:
1) Its FREE.
2) It came out when the only real smartphone OS was iOS and WebOS was proprietary to Palm which had a suckass hardware phone.
WinMo was not made for capacitive smartphone. Neither was BB, Symbian.
Theres no stopping the Android train now.
I think Win7 had a chance but those dumbasses decide to come up with this genius thing call tiles.
Yes we really want to look at colored tiles on the main screen.

I just don't understand people saying once iPhone goes to Verizon, Android is gone. iPhone is available pretty much everywhere else in the world on multiple carriers and Android still overtook iPhone there. Sure it'll take away marketshare as everyone knows it will but like you said, there's no stopping Android now.

Ok...

You were also wrong on this front.
Link: http://venturebeat.com/2011/02/03/verizon-iphone-sold-out/

Your track record in this thread has been pretty terrible.
Err, how was that wrong? First of all, I was being sarcastic, and 2nd, I haven't seen anyone else here saying they pre-ordered one - although I'm sure a few have.

But I guess we'll find out how VZ customers react when they release the actual numbers.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – At 8:10 p.m. EST yesterday, Verizon Wireless ceased online orders of iPhone 4 to existing customers and ended the most successful first day sales in the history of the company.

"This was an exciting day," said Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer for Verizon Wireless. "In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history. And, when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story. It is gratifying to know that our customers responded so enthusiastically to this exclusive offer --- designed to reward them for their loyalty.

"I am proud of our employees who worked tirelessly to strengthen and scale our systems, enabling unprecedented customer orders through our website. Overall, it was a very good day," he added.

Mead also said customers will have another opportunity at being among the nation's first to own an iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network.

"Yesterday's launch set the pace for next week when we open up sales to everyone across America."

The general market launch of the iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network will occur on February 10. The company will open its more than 2000 Verizon Wireless Stores at 7 a.m. It will also be available at all Apple store locations, Best Buy, select Wal-Mart stores, and on-line at verizonwireless.com and apple.com.

And so it begins...

The best part is that the iP4 for ATT used should drop in price a bit, as well as some pretty decent Android phones.

i can't buy an old phone at top prices with the new iphone only a few months away. Too many high lined phones are being release between now and the summer, i can't take a step backwards... and get locked into a 2 year contract, that's just me.

I personally have no interest in trading in my Droid X for an iPhone. I'm used to having the bigger screen at this point, and having a free navigation application that doesn't suck.

Are you implying that android based phones don't work?
lmao. If that is what you need to tell yourself to justify the purchase of a 7 month old phone that won't work with LTE, then be my guest.

I think I'll keep my DroidX (That works by the way) and wait to see what Apple does in June. If Jesusphone V doesn't have LTE support, bigger screen, better than Tegra2 graphics and fucking FLASH, I'll stick with Android.

Then I guess you are sticking with Android. Because even if they have everything else, I don't think they will deliver Flash, whether it is the fornicating kind or otherwise.

This is what I came here to post, exactly.

You realize. Most of those people are the ones that don't care about that. Of course we won't touch it, but we're a small minority. The majority of those who bought yesterday aren't going to care much when the new one comes out.

myself included.

i am not of the mindset that i need to upgrade for the sake of upgrading, just to be up with current tech. personally i do not like these huge screens on phones either. friend at my gym has the Evo and holy shit, that thing is HUGE ... i could never have something like that in my pocket, it would be so annoying.

the fact that 'its a 7 month old phone' (OH MY GOD 7 WHOLE MONTHS!!) doesn't have a damn thing to do with the fact that the phone does exactly what i want it to and has the UI and functionality that i want. a faster phone coming out with a bigger screen has no bearing on the fact that the 7 month old phone can do what i need it to do. there are no gripes that i have with the iPhone 4, at all.

i've been on a flip phone for the past 5 years and it has done what i need it to do. only reason i'm upgrading is because i like my iPod touch and have been devving for it, and now that my new every 2 is up, and I like the iOS, it suits my needs perfectly.

It's just coming to terms with the thought that you really don't need to be on the cutting edge every year. Everyone knows that Apple is going to update their iPhones every year. I got on the right upgrade path. I got the 3G which means I skipped the 3GS and upgraded to the 4. It's like Intel's "Tick Tock" mentality. The next one after the 4 is going to be an incremental upgrade and then the one after that is a redesign. Like Intel.

Well seeing as a 4.3 phone like the Evo is slightly larger than an iPhone, that's a moot point. It's not that big at all. People who say 4.3" phones are huge slabs haven't held one. The Droid X is much larger since it has more bezel but the Evo doesn't have much bezel around it. Many people are fine having a smaller screen but having the rez of an iPhone with a 4"+ screen would be about as good as it gets.

Oh, I was only comparing the Droid X to the iPhone. It's considerably taller, and won't fit well in my pocket (I made a cardboard mockup just to see what it would be like - that's how you KNOW I'm taking this decision seriously). I've never held an Evo in my hand so I don't really know. Either way there hasn't been any news of a phone with a big screen and iPhone-like resolution.
Personally I think 3.7"-4" screens are where it's at. The Samsung Fascinate was, IMO, the perfect size. Too bad Verizon gimped that version so hard.

7 Months is huge when technology is the subject. Especially when refering to computers or their smaller brothers, the smartphones. My comment is mainly aimed at mindless fanboyism for a phone that is clearly outdated.

And I would not consider the 4.3" screen HUGE by any means when compared to your iPhone's 3.5". But the extra size is very nice for multimedia. (Which incidentally is what the iPhone is aimed at also.) I think the issue here, is some people are so used to 3.5" and similiar sized handsets, that when they FIRST hold the 4.3" bigger brother it seems too big. Trust me, I was the same way. But after having my DroidX for a few days, I changed my opinion. I really would not want to go back to something smaller.
