Anyone else played the NEW Turok (PC) yet?

I love the first Turok, and Seeds of Evil was a favorite as well.
The rest were crap, so I gave up on the franchise. :(
I kept track of developments on the new one, and it looked good, so I bought it.
It seems pretty standard as far as things go. I'm not very far into it, about 30 minutes, but I always loved the dinosaurs in the first Turok, and this game definitely has them!
They come running at you out of nowhere and since I'm not too fast with the KB+M yet, I get jumped on more than I'd like. :)
The guns are ok, but pretty plain compared to some of the creations in Seeds Of Evil. There are standard handguns, machine guns, your bow, the sticky bomb gun, rocket launcher, and a few others. Still fun to play with, but nothing spectacular. I will say the dust kicked up with the rocket launcher looks cool!
I'm really enjoying it so far, and I don't want to give much away, so I'll end the details here.
I haven't played Unreal since the first one, so I can't really say how it compares to other games based on the Unreal3 engine, or other game engines. I think it looks nice, good atmosphere, and runs smoothly on my system. (C2D E6750@3.2GHz, 8600GTS, 4GB RAM, WinXP)
The blood looks a little strange, I suppose they are trying to make it look "wet" since it's kind of glossy?
Also, I'm not a big fan of the blurring when you're taking alot of damage. I know it's supposed to be more realistic, but I find it annoying. I'm sure there's a way to turn it off, but I haven't gotten into it that far yet.
I wanted to see a T-Rex, and I wasn't disappointed... :)
Let me know if you want more details!

You know there's a new one right? :)
It's just called Turok (not Turok: Dinosaur Hunter - the first one on N64 and later on PC)
In this one, you start out on a spaceship and end up on a planet with some dinos and the story goes from there.

It took me a minute, but I figured out what you were saying! I thought "3Dfx cards, WTF?!"
:)
I do still have the original first two on N64 though. The first one is so bland looking and the infamous "fog" doesn't help, but it's still fun!

I own the original for the PC, Dinosaur Hunter, and also Seeds of Evil, but both of them refuse to stay stable for more than 15 minutes. The original has many visual glitches since it wasn't made for Direct3D, and Seeds of Evil uses Direct3D 6.0, a long gone version, but it doesn't have any textures issues at all, the problem is that it will crash eventually (CTD or just screen turning blue, sound stops and you need to Ctlr+Alt+Del your way out of the application).

The sequel, Seeds of Evil, has always been my favorite, I even made a series for it on YouTube to listen to the soundtrack for the N64 and the PC version in comparison videos with some comments on-screen, it's my little tribute for it. Also this year in December will be Seeds of Evil's 10th anniversary. I can always dream for a proper sequel to Seeds of Evil using an engine from today's shooters such as CryEngine 2 or UEngine 3. There was Shadows of Oblivion back then, and was labeled "Turok 3", but it wasn't so in my book. Some people liked it, good for them, I never did, however I did complete it two or three times for the kicks, especially for one particular level... the one where we return to the very first level of the original game, with a rebuilt environment.

I have seen videos and read reviews about the "new" Turok, it looks good, but it doesn't seem to play good. The story makes absolutely no sense with the Turok lore, the weapons (from what I've seen) are absolutely nothing compared to what we had in Seeds of Evil (Cerebral Bore, Razor Wind, Scorpion Launcher, etc) or even in Dinosaur Hunter (Chronoscepter anyone?). I will try to get my hands on a used copy some day or I will try to rent it, I don't even want to download it to just try it, they should have released a Demo (if there's one let me know).

Ooooh... I didn't know this came out of PC. I loved the 3dfx Turok. :D

I'm fighting the urge to find the demo until after finals.

The weapons really are lacking compared to the first two. The cerebral bore was just hilarious (when it worked) and some of the other weapons were so over the top that they were cool. I'm not sure why they didn't put any in this game... :(
At least there's the flamethrower! They do let you dual wield alot of the weapons, and they all have a secondary use (the shotgun has a flare gun, etc), but they are still pretty boring.
The game itself is pretty mediocre, and I hear the story elements pretty much disappear as you progress. I was enjoying the backstory, so that's too bad.
The guy that sticks with you gets pretty annoying too, but he's supposed to be since he hates you. I just stand back and watch while he gets mauled by 4-5 raptors. :)
I'm still enjoying running around and killing dinos (and alot of soldiers), but it definitely could have been better.

I picked it up last Friday at Best Buy but it is still sitting on my counter un-opened. I may return it. I have purchased some horrible software ports in my time and I am not sure that I want to be another quick sale. If I see an early ad with it on sale for the next week, I may keep it. Otherwise, I think I am going to be returning it.

Besides, LOTRO is taking my time right now.

I watched the Zero Punctuation review and it sort of turned me off wanting to play it and it doesn't appear I am missing too much considering what the OP has said.

Maybe bargain bin...

Wow, this game is freaking terrible. I'm talking not even bargain bin.

Weak, unresponsive controls with KB+M, incredibly slow turning speed with 360 controller, horrid AI that goes from completely ignoring you to sniping you from extreme distance with their pistols and smgs (on full auto, and when I return fire with single shots or short bursts while crouched, the fire scatters so much I never hit the enemies. Yet they can run and shoot on full auto and kill me almost instantly, often before I can see them), 'follow the green tube' level design, terrible textures - especially the sky, AI team mates are incredibly annoying, knifing things forces you to watch a stupid animation over and over and over, which is the perfect time for you to get killed since you can't do anything, the list just goes on and on and on.

I agree, this is truly bad... a prime nomination for lemon of the year.

1 - To add insult to injury this thing has securerom, what a joke.
Even if you gave this game away or even paid me I wouldn't want it.

2 - This is based on the Unreal engine, Even the original Unreal game released 10 years ago is better than this.

3 - In the famous words of someone not so famous, This ain't no Half Life.

I finished it the day after I got it, and it was pretty bad. The only parts I liked were the dinosaurs, the rest was pretty bland. I can't complain about the controls, pretty standard stuff. It was a good time waster, but short as well. The story isn't good either, I hoped for more development. They really could have done something great with the Turok series, and they dropped the ball. :(

Something not to forget too, is that it was Propaganda Game's first game in their very young existence, I'm sure, and I do hope that they learn from their mistakes, and I also hope that they leave the Turok franchise in peace and try something else, not only try something original but something that's not a first-person-shooter.

No one else than Iguana can truly understand what Turok can be as a game, and unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you see it) they are gone as we knew them before, logically that should have meant that we'd have not have to see such a crappy attempt at Turok ever again after Turok 3, but alas, it happened for God knows why, that franchise ain't even a big name anymore, and thanks to that latest Turok it's even less so than it could have ever been.
