Anyone else pissed off at their car for not having ABS

My ABS in the WRX has kicked in at bad times. One day when the roads were still covered with snow, I hit the brake, but I couldn't press all the way down. ABS had kicked in and I had almost slided into the road. I wasn't traveling at a crazy speed either, somewhere between 20-25mph.

Oh no, here come the wannabe enthusiast elitists... Guys, there is no benefit to not having ABS, unless you think locking your brakes is an asset. You can threshold brake all you want, and if you're as good as you think you are, you won't activate ABS anyway.

My current car I passed up many to get with out abs.

ABS is great for panic stoppers. I learned to stop from driving insane in a '66 Mustang GT. Then an 88 GT. I can 'modulate' my brakes (breaks hehehe) without having to just push the pedal to the metal.

Technology is improving though...not too long before drive by wire is fly by wire so to speak (I am not talking real aircraft here nerds).

I am no elitist...Idealist perhaps, but defintiely nto an elitist

I jsut have a very demanding commute, and my brakes suck.....I rarely feel the need for more powerful brakign, but in some cases I do....

my brakes lock up at the flip of a hat..maybe I just need to get them replaced, or get the MC checked, and stop yapping..I'll make another thread about it

He speaks the truth. It takes a hell of a lot of practice to properly threshhold brake. Even when you get good at it an ABS equiped vehicle will stop faster most of the time.

I still prefer non ABS but my my car is also used for autocross. Well not the current one but it shouldn't be long.

ABS in real winter weather=bad.

Locking brakes=can be an asset.

Feel of road=good.

Also, having ABS takes away that paranoid edge of not knowing what the brakes are going to do in bad conditions, which helps driving awareness.

EDIT: Without ABS on the Explorer I rented this winter, I think I would have avoided the accident I got in.

If you're pumping your brakes "all the time," you're either tailgating way to much, or your brakes need to be bled.

No ABS on any of my cars that don't totally suck. The Escort has ABS. The brake pedal in the truck is very proud of it's DISC BRAKES.

Benefit to not having ABS: Not paying for ABS.

I could take it or leave it. I hate it in the snow, though, when I prefer to control the brakes myself. I'm quite experienced at winter driving, and sometimes, I actually want to be able to lock them up for a moment.

I love the foot message on my parents cars AKA ABS. A good set of winter tires is more important unless you plain suck at driving.

I don't have ABS.
I don't see what's so enjoyable. There's no benefit to feel.. Unless skidding tires is "feel".

And yes I know sliding is good with snow because you can develop a pile of it, but I've never driven in snow or seen more than 1" of it so there!

Are you riding on snow? If not, you shouldn't really pump the brakes. Maybe you have air in the braking system.
My '92 VW Passat doesn't have ABS on brakes, but it has ABS on the engine
(ok, the engine type is ABS, there are other types like AAM, ADZ, RP, AAA)
