Anyone else or anyone else's kid start school today?

My 5-year old started Kindergarten today. He was so excited that he was already wide awake when I came to get him out of bed just after 6AM.

Anyways, maybe it is just me, but I don't remember starting school this early in August. Seemed like it was always around Labor Day.

Depends on where you live. I know in Florida they start in August and then they are done in May.

All the schools here start on Thursday and we get out around the middle of May.

I guess I'm ready to go back... 🙁

his excitment will wax and wane as the years go on 😛

just wait until reality hits him like a slippery fish, hopefully by then he will be past his emo teenager years 😀

I think I'll slit MY wrists if he ever turns Emo.

Most schools are starting now or have just started in KY.
The local schools where I live however, started on July 24th.!
I remember how we always started the last week of the month of August, with 1/2 day off on Friday for the Monday Labor Day holiday, and we usually stayed in session until around Memorial Day! (I remember skipping school once to go swimming on opening day at the swimming lake, & it always opened on Memorial Day.)

lucky him, I remember my first day of Kindergarten, I had no real grasp of what school was. Remember my mom dropping me off somewhere and they told me I had to stay. My first memory of being tricked, wished my mom had prepared me like you did your son 🙂
does seem VERY early to start school, but if he's excited all the better.

In my experience, on the east coast, as a kid school was from end of august (labor day-ish) to late june. In the west, for middle and high school, school ran early - mid august to the beginning of june (or even the last week of may some years).

Heh, compared to when we first took him to day care when he turned two, this was a breeze. He spent around the first month screaming bloody murder every time we dropped him off. Today, he showed me where his class was and sat down and played with the other kids at his table.

Incidentally, every table paired up two boys with two girls. I kind of had a "Village of the Damned" flashback for a second.

Mine started last Thursday. I think every time Georgia finishes in the bottom 5 nationally (read: every year), they move the start date back a couple of days thinking that will solve all the problems. I remember starting just after Labor Day and my education was quite good many years ago.

<waits for Dave to rail on the state of GA>

In Texas they usually start during the week that contains August 21. Now they are starting on week later on August 27.

They started last week or two weeks ago here. University starts next week. I remember not going back to school until after Labor day when I was in high school.

That's way to early.

We used to start at the middle of September in California. And get out in June. I think that's perfect. The weather is still great in September even and I'd rather start later and enjoy those months instead of being locked up in a class room.
