Anyone else notice an increase of murder/suicides?

Yesterday it was reported that 8 were killed in a nursing home shooting, 3 were killed when a 23 year old man decapitated his 5 year old sister and stabbed his 17 year old sister to death, and today 6 people were killed by a family member in CA.

There was also a few murder/suicides in the news last week.. Anyone else find this all a bit odd?

You have more time to read about murders now that the housing is crashing, banks are failing, stocks are plummeting, OMG president, and jobs are disappearing headlines are out of the way. They'll probably keep going with the murders till the sharks are attacking headlines start in a few weeks.

We had one (murder/suicide) in my sleepy little town this month, too.

Sorry to hear that. There were multiple shootings at social gatherings here in Brooklyn, but I live in the hood so that's to be expected. It's these killings in small-town America and the victims (their own kids) that I find odd as of late.

You know, I thought it was sensational journalism but these murders aren't getting all that much publicity - most are not even being covered by the cable news networks. I just read google news every few hours and the write ups are mostly from small, local papers.

Murders happen every day all across small-town America. It usually gets buried in other crap. Sure the rate could be increasing but your observation says nothing more than it was more noticeable to you on Google news lately.

Sadly these things happen all the time. But they will be dramatized even more now since the administration is interested in reinstituting the assault weapons ban.

And who is opposed to a ban on those scary looking guns? That wasnt really the worst part of the original ban which we had to wait 10 long years to bite the dust. It was the dumbassed limit on clip capacity. Why is that stupid in the first place? All you have to do is bring lots of clips!

All we need now is another Columbine or Virginia Tech and the emotional will rule the day with regard to gun laws. 🙁

The gun loons have really been on a buying spree since Obama was elected. I went into Turners Outdoorsman a couple months ago and they had hardly any guns for sale at all...they had been wiped out!

wtf, I didn't hear about that one.

Economic hard times cause stress which leads to mental illness and instability so crime goes up. Not to mention there is a concerted effort to drum up emotional support for more gun bans/laws.

Thats because the gun control loons are in power. Even if they bring back the AWB and perhaps enhance it somehow to make it even more draconian - if the past serves as any reminder - the democrats lost control of the house and senate as a result of the passing those gun laws.

I find it funny that Jules calls them "gun control loons." There are about 80 million legal American gun owners. Trying to preserve our second amendment rights doesn't make anyone crazy. The fact that putting restrictive, stupid gun control laws in place only pisses off law-abiding citizens should show that we want to keep our rights.

that's really interesting about Pelosi but the guy from Nevada isn't surprising at all, he would lose his seat if he stuck with Obama on this one.

I never realized how powerful the NRA was until I became a member and saw how much they fund-raise and provoke emotion. They are very, very good at what they do and there is no doubt in my mind that in many swing states they could easily make or break an election based on their recommendation.

there was no increase in murder, there was only an increase in the amounts that were REPORTED by the media. We live in a vastly safer world that we have ever known, but are subjected to increased media attention.

it's just that you hear about it more in the news.

Remember west nile virus and how much coverage it got 7 years ago? When's the last time you heard a report on west nile virus? Guess what? It's killed more people in each successive year since the reports died down, in some years nearly doubling

Could be just more exposure in the Media making it seem like an increase. Only way to know for sure would be to see some Stats on it.

That's the very reason I didn't renew my membership after the first year. I just got sick to death of the propaganda and constant begging for money.
