Anyone else NOT looking foreward to Will Smith Playing Ali?

Put Aside his abysmal performance as James West. (For you kiddies the REAL James West was and is Robert Conrad)

Forget about his political aspirations and focus on his new movie.

I'm sorry, the guy is a string bean. He always was and he still is no matter how much he works out, Ali was MASSIVE. Will smith simply doesn't have the build to play Ali.

Now Ving Rhames played Ali once and did a GREAT job. He not only did a great job acting but he also LOOKED the part.


Will Smith should stick with his comical and "men in black" roles. Ali is out of his league.

well, i think this version of Ali kinda explores his emotional and comical side more. as much as I hate will smith, I don't think he'll be that bad. And you're right, physically, he's nothing like Ali

Well, I'm not going to make a judgment before I see the movie, and yes I do want to see it. I like Will Smith's acting ability and I like Ali. We'll see how the two mix. If he sucks, I'll let ya know. ;)

Personally, I don't think Ali was that great.. He wasn't a god - he wasn't even that huge. Will Smith put on about 50 pounds. That makes him just about as big as Ali.


Also, he's been boxing for two years prior to his part. I think he's going to be able to play Ali well. I don't think it's gonna be that great of a movie, though.

I have a lot of respect for Will Smith as an actor. He know when to let the arrogant person he is show and when not to. He gave an interview about this movie and commented on how much this role was not his typical kind because it is not an arrogant "Will" role. I think he will do a good job in it.

I just dont think his bone structure would even do ali justice. He's not a broad shouldered guy and his face is far too thin to be playing Ali.

What are you expecting, some lost lost twin of ali to magically appear? Have you seen the trailers for the movie?

I totally agree with this point. Ali is not that big... Smith could get close to his size without too much trouble. However I am skepitical about this movie... but we'll have to see... Smith might to a great job! Hes not that bad of an actor....:)

I thought so too, and actually Ali was thinner in the beginning of his career.

I'm actually looking forward to it very much; Smith is a great actor, and he did gain a ton of weight and muscle for this role...plus Michael Mann is brilliant (Heat)...should be a good one.

I agree..Im looking forward for the release as well, Michael Mann is just awesome! (one of my favorite director). The cast looks promising (beside Will Smith)you got John Voight, Jamie Foxx, Mario Van Peebles and Ron Silver.

I think that Will Smith can play the part as Ali well, but i will wait for the release before making any judgment.

From the trailer, I think Will Smith looks bigger and more muscular than Ali was in his fighting days.

Yeah he's bulky but its just somthing about his body structure that doesn't want me to accept it.

Now Ving Rhames, the computer hacker in Mission Impossible 1 and 2 he had the bone structure and build to make it believable

Sigh, yes Luckster I've seen the trailers. He doens't have the build or bone structure ALI had. Ving Rhames is a FAR better comparison.

i was walking in a mall one day a few months ago and they asked me to watch a movie preview. and it was for ali... i told them that smith wasn't a good choice for the part.... *shrugs*

Let's not forget Denzel in "Hurricane"...of couse he at least had muscle to work with in the beginning.

Will is too tall and bony..50 lbs..would still make him too tall and not so bony.

I will probably see it, but I think there should have been somebody else cast as Cassius Clay...maybe like an amateur boxer..he would at least fit the part. vs. James West wannabe and Bagger Vance

yeah, not a big fan of will smith....he's sorta funny looking and his comedy sucks. From a physical point will smith could muscle up to play ali but his face is never going to be like ali's who's face has been burned into the American public.

Ali is the only one that can play ali and he did in an earlier movie about his life.

Will smith should just stick to men in black or whatever....

ALI had a wild personality but as a fighter he was over rated.

I saw a "Sneak Preview" earlier today, he has definately bulked up, they should of chosen that guy from MI i agree with you guys but i think he is a bit old for the part now
