Anyone else not get Black Friday?

Can someone explain the appeal of black friday to me? You wait in line for hours on end in the freezing cold for a "deal" that gets you $20 off some terrible product. Instead you could have spent that same amount of time, working and easily made that $20 and more. I would much rather just shop online, at least then I can watch pron at the same time.

Black Friday can mean a lot of profit for some individuals. For most, it's just to hang out with friends while potentially getting something you wanted at a decent price.

I got $700 off on my HDTV last year. There are definitely lame sales but you can also score on some good deals.

BF is all about camping for days before so the news can come have a story and people can go WTF are those people idiots.

I look forward to Black Friday as much as Superbowl Sunday. I know I can go hiking and not be mobbed by yahoos.

if its called black Friday because its the day retailers goes from in the red to in the black then why don't they offer these deals for more then just one day? or even a few hours in the case of "door busters"....?

I don't get the point of it either. I'd rather save the gas and time and get just as good a deal from an online store.

You're assuming you can find work as easily as waiting in line that will make you that $20.

But yes, there is something wrong that I have to wait in line in the freezing cold (here in IL) just to give my hard earned money to some corporation.

It's worth it if you want some of the more desirable products, which actually letse you save quite a bit of money. But it's a waste of time for the little stuff, might as well just go in around 9am and probably still get it.

I saved $500 on an LCD TV last Black Friday, which was definitely worth while. $20 on something like an MP3 player? Not so much.

I don't generally go for the big deals on Black Friday but I do shop just to be festive. I like the atmosphere.

The atmosphere? You mean the stale shit smell from the guy's sweat pants that got up at 4 in the morning and in was such a hurry he skipped the shower and shave part of the three S's to be first in line at Best Buy for a chance at a deal on a 60 inch plasma TV for his trailer?

My friends are camped out at the 24-hour Walgreens. I have no idea what great deal they are waiting for. But they're having a great time, talking to everybody, people are bringing them coffee and so on. The store staff is having a good time with them. These guys have camped out at Best Buy etc in former years, I think this is their way of making fun of the whole Black Friday thing. Evidently a news crew will be coming by to interview them - news folks shop at drug stores.

you have to work the day after thanksgiving? sucks to be you.
Anyways, people on't camp out for the $20 off eals, they camp out for the 50% deals. This year may not have it, but it has turne into a marketing hype, but there are deals to be found.

canada does not 'get it'.

but that depends on what 'it' is
i think some Canadian retailers have latched on to the Black Friday thing within the past couple years.

I don't get black friday either.
Do I have a TV? Check.
Desktop computer? Check.
Laptop? Check.
Camera? Check.

So I might pay attention to deals once every 5 years. Besides, if something breaks and I need a replacement in May, I'm not waiting 6 months just for black friday deals.
