Its really strange in the past few months over the summer, ive been having a great social life, also been playing tennis more competetively lately and all of a sudden i realized that i lost all interest in computer technology. I used to be excited about upcoming bleeding edge hardware, but now its hard to even sike myself up for any of it. I rarely even visit these forums anymore, my latest views have only been to the OT section. Anyone else finding that theres no more thrill to computers or games anymore? It might seem that im maturing in my mind turning 16 yrs old, but i can clearly remember me thinking this was going to be my lifetime interest and hopefully a career in doing so. Its just so strange, i used to look at my dad or and wonder why he doesnt enjoy playing games? I dunno ide just like to share, ide like to hear your thoughts on this.

I've never really enjoyed gaming, and my interest in bleeding edge hardware disappeared years ago.

Once every few months, I get pissed off and frustrated at myself and/or something related to my job or latest pet project, and I want absolutely nothing to do with technology, computers, networks, etc. And then about a week later, I dive back into it because it's the only thing I've ever found that I enjoy doing / am passionate about.

Yes, most of us who grew up did the same thing. I'm 25 and don't really care what hardware is in my computer as long as it does what i need it to. When I was 16 I was building pointless watercooling projects and sticking peltiers on video cards.

I wouldn't say I don't care anymore, I've just lost that "man this stuff is awesome" feeling like I had when I first got into them. Inevitable I suppose.

I still love games. I?m 33. I?m currently a WoW addict but as soon as I get my new gear in a couple days I?ll also be playing FPS?s again too. Even when I have a GF or am going out quite a bit I still game almost as much as ever.

In terms of bleeding edge hardware I lost interest in that as soon as I was out of college and paying all my own bills. For some it continues to be a hobby, but for me it?s just a means to an end. I want hardware so that I can play whatever games attract me at the time, but the hardware in and of itself isn?t what I get stoked over anymore. Plus, it's gotdamn expensive.

WTF, pletiers on video cards in '97/'98? I don't remember video cards getting that hot back then..

I don't care about hardware much as long as it does what I need it to do, like notfred said.

I still love games though... doubt I'll ever tire of that. ;) And I enjoy doing programming projects and web design work.

I'm only 19 so it's still exciting to me to read about new stuff and get new stuff. Then again I'm a computer engineering major so software/hardware is kind of what I'll be doing. However it still takes a backseat to my social life now that I'm older, unlike when I was 14/15 when my computer WAS my life.

I lost interest awhile back. Computers are my job, so it's hard for it to be my hobby too. I still enjoy gaming though, but I have consoles and a DS for that.

Hey OP: For someone that doesn't care about computers or technology anymore, that is one hell of a computer-technology type signature you have. Hypocrite. :p

I can help you. Reach around to the back of your computer case. Up near the top, there's a single, thick cord. Pull that out.

The point wasn't to keep it at room temperature, the ponit was to get it icy cold and see if it overclocked better.

I'm totally not as into it as I used to me.

I like keeping my computer relatively up to date for gaming purposes, but I'm not nearly as into the scene as I used to be. about a year ago, I actually un-modded my computer and took out all the lights, control panels, windows, etc in favor of a plain grey box with great sound dampening.

I haven't overclocked in forever. just doesn't seem worth it anymore when I'm old enough to actually afford more powerful hardware without it breaking the bank.

my interest in keeping up with the latest and greatest has practically died...

I am still heavily interested in applying what I know and what I can find out to our business though:D

Computers are my hobby, I love em. But what really dissapoints me is how it's being taken over by consumerism and fanboys. It used to be that computer enthusiasts loved to tinker around and actually learn how things work. Now, it's all about buying the latest and greatest, whatever that may be. Since many ppl don't know or care about the technical details, marketing is becoming more effective than engineering.

My life used to revolve around computers but then i graduated and work with them all day long. I go home i just want the computer to turn on and be able to watch my movies and that's it.
