Anyone else miss manual labor?

I have come to the realization that once in a blue moon, I miss having to do back breaking work. When I used to live at home there was always some task that my father needed for me to do. (shoveling dirt, carrying bricks, moving this, mowing that) Now that I am away from home and the hardest task I now have is configuring a win2k server with a Novell server, I miss those times that I could not close my hands or got blisters from holding an shovel. Most of all I miss the fact that I was able to shower, eat dinner, and just put my head down and pass out cold.

Yeah I do. He was our gardener for a little while. :)

I enjoy manual labor. It gets the blood flowing. Feels good to get up a good sweat. Now I jsut sweat sitting here in this damn heat!

I used to work in a warehouse where we repaired monitors. I dealts with receiving the monitors, unpacking, and tagging for repair. Once the ywere repaired, I packed them up and loaded them onot the truck. Man I actually enjoyed that. Imagine doing that on about 50-100 17" monitors everyday for 6 hours! hehehe... I also recall one time we got a shipment of 50 21" monitors for repair! Kicked my ass!

I hear ya. I'd love to get a part time job at Fed Ex or UPS just throwing around packages to relieve some stress and get the blood flowing after 8 hours of sitting on my ass listening to my users bitch and moan about the server being slow.

I love cutting the grass. It gets me to do something :)

Plus the feeling of satisfaction you get after you are done when you actually do manual labor is great.

Uhm, I've never really had to do manual labor much, but my original plan this summer was to get work in construction so I could learn about the other side of Architecture. That way, I would be learning something useful about my major, and also get a good workout in. However, I had no luck even though I offered to work for free for many people. It finally came down to me asking my h.s. wrestling coach to talk to his brother for me. They were still talking when I stumbled upon a great Internet think tank/design/html type of job over at FCNY.org...

heck I even applied to volunteer at three nearby branches of Habitat for Humanity, didn't hear back from any of them...

that is So true, dam. school really amplifies it. you do all these mental exercises and nothing physical. so i take a break every once in a while to visit my sister and her husband. while i'm there, i WORK. painting walls, building shelves, digging ditches. and boy does it feel good. such a nice change of pace.

I used to do back-breaking work. I liked it. I was doing professional landscaping along with a variety of various facilities work (no, not janitorial work!). I looked pretty good when I was doing it, too. Too bad I keep getting these damn desk jobs. :Q:eek:

Oh yeah, I sit behind a puter all day. Manual labour doesn't require as much brain power. My brother manages a vineyard. I'd love to have his job. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, and no humming fans. Getting your hands dirty is a simple pleasure in life.
