Anyone else lose interest in the show "Louie?"

I started drifting last season, when it was less an awkward comedy and more just depressing - this season I haven't been able to sit through 15 minutes of the pilot. Anyone else just not into the show anymore? Or is it just me?

Its severely depressing, namely the last episode of season 3 where Liz dies for no apparent reason.

Literally the most depressing show I've ever seen in my life. I guess because Louie's life reminds me of my own so much, sans the kids and success which makes my life infinitely more depressing then his.

I still like it though.

Last nights episode (not sure if new) where the fat girl keeps asking him out and then gets mad at him for herself being fat was terrible.

Seems to have taken a turn from tragi-comedy to just dark drudgery, then the first episode I saw of this season had a bunch of has been comics doing an almost Howard Stern routine (you know, dated 'sex acts spelled out in explicit details is cutting edge and the funnies'. It's strange, I saw CK live and love his comedy, I'm just not sure what he's trying to do with his show.

I enjoyed the first episode this season. It was like a very highly exaggerated version of just one day in his life. But at the end where they were all sitting at the poker table talking about jerking off, that was kinda less funny. Just watched 2nd episode last night, there was some funny stuff going on but nothing too great.

He has this tendency in his show where he always has really hot girls take him home for some reason. Its not very believable. Maybe it should be though, he does have fame.

Yeah! I like the awkward comedy stuff, but then he dips into 90s slacker comedy, like bad Kevin Smith. It's kinda jarring, and who still likes dick jokes?

I watched up to the end of season three, which was so beautiful and poignant that I'm not sure I can watch the show anymore.

It's otherwise a decent show, but the last few episodes of season three will simply not be outdone, and there is no overall story arc to compel me to watch further.

Last night's episode with the fat girl was actually kind of nice. Her rant at the end actually brought a tear to my eye.

Otherwise, yes, I have to take a Xanax before watching the show.

His self deprecating, divorced guy, single father act is started to wear down in general. We get it, you are old, unattractive, masturbate a lot, and try hard to be a good father but mess up along the way.

I love the show and continue to really admire the purity of what he does. I can't think of another show that is so purely one man's vision, and it's clear the network has no input whatsoever on what he does. Still a big fan.

Must be I'd never watched it.

Never cared for Curb You're Enthusiasm myself either, tired to watch it once, maybe it's just me.

The problem with Curb Your Enthusiasm is that the eps are hit or miss. One episode will be hilarious and then then next one will be unwatchable. It is entirely too inconsistent to watch every episode. You need someone to tell you which ones are good and which ones are bad, and then only catch the good ones. Some seasons have more then others. Earlier seasons were better IMO.

yep, though I haven't seen it in a very long time, and so probably only watched about half of them.

Louie is great, but I watch it when it hits Netflix, so I can watch them all at once. Much easier to get over bad episodes that way.

Yup, that's what's so great about it. Compare it to to the profoundly shit-tastick Lucky Louie before this, which was on HBO, and where he had no control.

nice short review about the show in NYorker some year or so ago:

...and something far more erudite about the man:

Yeah, I didn't know much about Louie when Lucky Louie aired, but I had heard him on Stern and liked him, so watched the show. What a catastrofuck that show was. I found it completely unfunny and unappealing.

For those of you that like his comedy but not the show, have you seen the HBO sitcom "Lucky Louie"? I had it on On-Demand and thoroughly enjoyed it.
