Anyone else looking forward to The Last Ship?

I just watched the trailer on youtube and don;t know if I can get into it. Here are my 2 BS call outs:

1. Women in the Navy aren't that attractive (and no i'm not talking about rhona mitra, I know she's a scientist).

2. That's not the jacket a scientist would wear to the Antarctic, right brand, wrong model.

One thing that really bothered me though was one guy with a handgun taking control of the whole ship.

I thought he mentioned all his other deputies being stationed around the ship for purposes of seizing control?

IDK what protocol is or how many weapons are freely available to the crew, but he also had the XO as hostage.

I.e., didn't really bother me.

Did this get better? I stopped watching after episode 4 and got hooked on The Strain. Should I go back and watch this?

it definitely got better, but it is still pretty meh in general. it's just a fun summer show to watch if you want to just turn off your brain for 40 minutes of mindless entertainment.

Given the nature of the mission, I would have assumed there would be some better security.
